How to Cook Bacon in the Air Fryer
Cooking bacon in the air fryer couldn’t be easier!
- To preheat (not all air fryers need this) air fryer: Heat the air fryer to 350ºF.
- To cook the bacon: Place bacon in a single layer in the air fryer basket and air fry for 5-9 minutes or until crispy to your liking.
How long to cook bacon in an air fryer
This may depend on the thickness, the amount of bacon you use, and the air fryer itself.
The more bacon, the longer it will take to cook.
Also, the thicker the bacon, the longer it will take to cook!
Thick Bacon vs Thin Bacon
- For very thin bacon, you can cook in about 5 minutes.
- For thicker sections, you’ll need closer to 8 or 9 minutes.
- It’s worth noting that your magic number also depends on how crispy (or not) you like your bacon!
If you’re not sure how long your bacon will take to cook, check it at 5, then add a few minutes at a time from there until it’s cooked to your liking.

Can you put raw bacon in the air fryer?
Yes! It is completely safe to put raw bacon in the air fryer, as long as it is cooked to a safe temperature. In the air fryer, this only takes a few minutes!
Why is my air fryer bacon smoking?
If your air fryer is smoking, it may have something to do with the bacon dripping grease or overheating while cooking.
You can prevent this by adding a little water to the drip pan under the air fryer basket (this helps absorb any dripping grease.), or just clean the basket between batches.
heat too high can lead to smoking. I don’t recommend 400ºF here. If you set the temperature to 350ºF or even 375ºF you shouldn’t have a problem.
What type of air fryer to use
We’ve tried a lot of air fryers over the years.we already have and use it Basket (my personal favorite), this Instant Pot Air Fryer Accessoriesand this toaster air fryer! They all work well! This is a personal preference of your choice. Do you want/need a new toaster? Do you have room for a separate new device? Consider all of these things when shopping and decide which ones work for you. This is not a small appliance, so make sure you have enough space!
The thing to note about air fryers is that some of them can be quite small. If you have a small capacity, you may need to make the bacon in batches. While I’m guessing if you’ve been using this air fryer for a while, you’ve learned it.
Cook in batches, and if you have a small capacity air fryer, make sure there is enough air circulation around the wings so they will be crispy. If you do need to do it in batches, you can finally put all the wings back in the basket and cook for a minute to warm them all up!

Tips and Precautions for Making Bacon in the Air Fryer
- Be sure to use pliers! This may seem silly, but they are helpful here!
- Optional: Cut the bacon in half. I don’t do this when hosting a brunch, but if you’re going to crumble the bacon anyway, it works great to create more space.
- Do I need to clean the grease between batches? I usually clean the bottom of the air fryer between batches to avoid splatter and smoke, but there are plenty of times I don’t and it’s totally fine.
- Your quantity matters. Two slices cook faster than six slices, so be warned if that makes sense!
- Not crispy yet? Add another minute or two. It may be that your bacon is too thick.
