Ingredients and Substitutes

This section explains how to choose the best ingredients for your air fryer pork chops recipe, what each ingredient does in the recipe, and substitution options. For measurements, see recipe card below.

Choose pork chops:

You can make bone-in pork chops or boneless air fryer pork bones to your preferred thickness. Use these tips to choose the best:

  • Bone-in vs. boneless: Bone-in cuts will have more flavor but will take longer to cook. Boneless cuts (usually boneless loins or ribs) cook faster and are easier to eat. Choose your preference.
  • Ribs and Tenderloin Chops: Ribs contain more fat, while loins are leaner. Both have a mild flavor.
  • thickness: Choose pork chops that are similar in size and thickness so they cook at the same rate. The best air fryer pork chops are at least 3/4 to 1 inch thick, but if the ones you can find are only 1/2 inch, they’ll be fine.
  • appearance: Tough chops with some marbling are ideal – look for firm, pink flesh and avoid chops that look very pale or have dark spots.

seasoning:

I use my quick and easy Pork Chops Marinade For this Pork Chops Air Fryer recipe. It contains olive oil (or avocado oil), coconut aminos (or soy or soy sauce would work too), lemon juice, Dijon mustard, pressed garlic cloves, sea salt, and black pepper.

If you don’t have time to pickle them, you can use pork chop seasoning Instead, or just season with salt and pepper. You can also add other seasonings like paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cilantro, grated Parmesan cheese, or cumin, depending on your taste preference.

Tips for the Best Air Fryer Pork Chops

Tips for the Best Air Fryer Pork Chops

Whether you choose bone-in or boneless cuts, follow these guidelines for juicier, tastier meat:

  • Return the meat to room temperature. Pork chop recipes in the air fryer work best if the meat is brought to room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking. This allows them to cook more evenly and keep them from drying out.
  • Do not marinate for more than 12 hours. If you leave them in the marinade longer than that, they will get mushy.
  • Give them space. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. There should be a small space between the chops. If you don’t have room, cook in batches.
  • Do not overcook. Since pork chops are lean meat, they can easily dry out if overcooked.I recommend sticking to a probe thermometer Put it in the thickest part of one of the chops before turning off the air fryer. That way you don’t have to take off the heat to check for doneness.
  • Remember to rest. To retain the juices inside, let the ribs rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving. If you cut them right away, they will taste drier.

Can You Cook Frozen Pork Chops in the Air Fryer?

Yes, you can cook frozen ribs in the air fryer. At 400 degrees F, they will take 3-5 minutes longer than fresh.

To cook from frozen, cook for about 8 minutes, then flip over and insert your probe thermometer, and continue cooking until it reaches 145°F. (You can also use the timetable above and add 3-5 minutes.)

storage instructions

  • shop: Place leftover pork chops in an airtight container and refrigerate for 2-3 days.
  • Reheat: You can also reheat pork chops in the air fryer! I like to turn the heat down to about 200 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes. But if you don’t have a lot of time, just a few minutes at 400F or reheating in the microwave is fine.
  • freeze: Place leftovers in freezer bags and freeze for 2-3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
