AirAsia to launch ride-hailing service in Philippines and Indonesia



Malaysia’s Capital A, formerly the holding company of AirAsia Group, plans to expand the ride-hailing platform on its e-commerce platform “Super App” to the Philippines and Indonesia in the third quarter of this year, the Philippine Star reported. The ride-hailing platform under the “airasia Ride” brand was first launched in Malaysia last August as part of Capital A’s digital transformation efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic. Airasia Super App CEO Amanda Woo said one million rides have been completed so far, with around 500,000 bookings processed in the first quarter of 2022.

The ride-hailing platform under the “airasia Ride” brand was first launched in Malaysia last August as part of Capital A’s digital transformation efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic. Airasia Super App CEO Amanda Woo said one million rides have been completed so far, with around 500,000 bookings processed in the first quarter of 2022.

Woo noted that the new ride-hailing platform has expanded to ten cities in Malaysia in just eight months of operation. In the second quarter, the service will launch in Thailand, followed by Indonesia and the Philippines in the next quarter.

Wide variety of e-commerce services

airasia Super App already operates various e-commerce services in Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, including online shopping, travel booking, food and parcel delivery services, financial and health services, on-demand education and community chat and Thailand, pinning its hopes on the region Strong e-commerce marketplace.

“The start of the year has seen many positive developments in our key ASEAN countries, with the support campaign launched by the airasia Super App boosting the travel, tourism and e-commerce market,” Woo said.

“We are enthusiastic about the positive results and confident in the outlook, we see total subscribers continue to grow with the support of the airline [industry] Recovery, more product launches and continued expansion in more ASEAN cities,” she added.
