Be my friend Cathy Hacker Let me write a foreword for her new book With John Bazel (@buzzxr) The answer is of course, “Yes!” She is not only an old friend, but also an authority in the fields of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and spatial computing. I am very interested in these things! But when I actually read the manuscript, I felt lucky to be asked. This is a very important and timely topic for every company and entrepreneurs and dreamers everywhere.
Leaving aside the geek factor, the convergence of artificial intelligence, augmented reality/virtual reality, and 5G (and others) has laid the foundation for a new experience canvas that spans the digital, real, and hybrid world. This means that we need to think about how to manage the future in a different way. What we know and what we can dream of is the starting point of this journey. Everything starts from reimagining… everything, how we interact with each other, our environment, the space itself, how we work, learn, shop, entertain, and explore the untapped new world in the future.

These avatars in the virtual world represent real humans, and they are not only paving the way for personal entertainment. They are broadening their horizons, learning how to connect, learn and express themselves in new ways, while breaking through the boundaries of reality itself. For those who follow, our adventures in immersive reality are changing the way we communicate, connect, work, discover, and share. When you return to the real world, you start to question why you have to stop. “Why are these experiences not part of daily life?” You ask yourself.
Okay, this is how the world works, isn’t it?
The fact is that the way the world works today was imagined in an era that no longer exists.
Say: this. Yes. what. matter.
The system that was originally built for everything we do today is failing. As society progresses, outdated infrastructure, ways of thinking and indicators, rather than technology, hinder progress.
The future of the way we live and work, our relationship with innovation, and our construction of productivity and participation, are long overdue for a renaissance in digital, physical, and hybrid. Who is the artist we imagine and create the future? Who is the Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael or Donatello of our time?
The answer is: you.
This is why you read this article. This is why Cathy and John wrote this book. You are, they are, and we are all curious. We are dreamers. We are geeks. We believe that there are greater things ahead, because we have experienced miracles in our personal lives: artificial intelligence. Augmented Reality. Immersive audio. Virtual Reality. 5G.
Why combine these experiences, our ideas, and our enthusiasm to reimagine the future of work, business, engagement, and experience? There must be someone. So why can’t it be you? The future requires you to imagine forward-designing the next generation of relationships between people, screens and machines, and virtual and real world experiences. Although we want to forget it, 2020 is a crucial year for us. Through destruction and chaos, we have found a new way forward. We have learned that we are more capable, more resilient and more creative than previously thought. But this is not the last destruction we will face. Another epidemic, climate change, social transformation, political transformation, and the unknown are yet to come. We are also in the throes of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (“4IR”), which is completely reshaping everything.
think about it. If not now, when is it? If it’s not you, who is it?
Just because our way of life or work “has always been like this” does not mean that this is the best way or the only way forward. 4IR has forced human workers to relearn skills and reconnect soft (though really hard) skills, including creativity, critical thinking, empathy, problem solving, initiative and active learning.
What we see and hear can be enhanced to bring Metaverse to life in our work. 4IR can provide more incredible experiences that we have not seen, or even imagined. This is why you play a more important role than you think. Today, you have the opportunity to look into the future. You can become an architect, an engineer-a builder of immersive, efficient, and fantastic digital and hybrid experiences.
Look, I understand. It’s easy to find every reason why we can’t change the rules, act desperately, or immerse ourselves in new and different things without first checking certain checkboxes.
But with or without us, changes will happen. Changes also happen to us or because of us. This is really a choice.
The same old ideas and beliefs will never change the world. As the saying goes: “Crazy is to do the same thing over and over again, but expect different results.” I believe you believe that the world will be better because of your ideas.
Thank you for walking along the way. You have a good relationship with Cathy and John. Together, you will not only change your work and lifestyle, but you will also leave traces in the universe. You will inspire significant changes in the design of how people, things and places coexist, communicate, and lively.
