A recently fired journalist previously posted the hashtag “#HitlerWasRight” on Twitter, accusing her former employer of succumbing to “malicious intimidation” in a statement about her dismissal on Wednesday.

Not long after Honest Reporting highlighted Halawa’s tweet, it tweeted again.
“Seeing this comment recurring: Yes, this tweet is from 2014. No, that’s not good. No, this is not the only offensive tweet that Halawa has posted. Yes, neither does @BBC I didn’t know or didn’t know when I hired her about 3 years later. It’s not good enough.”

In another 2014 article, Halawa wrote on Twitter: “A night full of bloody news and explosions. #PalestineUnderAttack #Zionists cannot get enough blood.”
In the statement sent to her Twitter On Wednesday, Halawa apologized for her “offensive and ignorant tweets.”
She explained: “I am a young Palestinian woman. At the time I witnessed a terrible and undesirable death. The international media remained silent about this. At that time, I used a popular label without thinking.”
She then went on to criticize the BBC, calling her “the BBC was fired immediately on the whim of a pro-Israel mob”.
Harawa pointed out that her so-called “trend of hostile actors to maliciously intimidate journalists in the region” was the reason for her dismissal.
Although she didn’t say it specifically, Halawa may be alluding to the case of Emily Wilder, a young journalist who was recently fired. Associated Press Tweets after starting the “harassment campaign” after Stanford University Republicans Wrote a Twitter post calling her an “anti-Israel instigator.”
Weekly newspaper Contacted Halawa for her comment on the comparison, but did not receive an immediate response.

On May 23, the BBC announced that it was investigating Halawa’s tweets, the same day they were discovered. On June 11, a senior spokesperson confirmed that the investigation was over, stating that “this person no longer works for the BBC”.
The BBC’s impartial editorial guidelines say: “There should be no content on their social media accounts that undermines the integrity or impartiality of the BBC.”
