Madhya Pradesh is a very fascinating state with incredible wildlife, wonderful historical buildings and unique culture and cuisine. In its capital, Bhopal, you might experience every bit of MP’s cultural heritage “through and through”. Bhopal is a historic city ruled by Muslims, founded by Islamic monarchs and separated by several beautiful lakes. In the eighteenth century, four queens (Begums) developed Bhopal. This is evident when visiting the northern outskirts of the city, dominated by a series of mosques, rustic passages, small shops serving meat delicacies and bazaars showcasing a long history of Islamic craftsmanship.

live in a royal residence

To really understand the history of Bhopal, stay at least one night at Noor-Us-Sabah or Jehan Numa Palace, both of which were marketed by Nawabs of the past. Not only are these palace-style hotels steeped in history, they also feature world-class facilities. In addition, these hotels indulge in palatial luxury, offering essential rich experiences at reasonable prices. Plus, this 18th-century colonial building provides the ideal backdrop for an Instagram-worthy photo.
Visit the Taj Mahal in Bhopal
![]()
The Taj Mahal was conceived in the 18th century by the third queen of Bhopal, Shah Jahan Begum. She hopes that more and more Muslims will be able to pray under one roof. So she commissioned the construction of the second largest mosque in Asia and anointed the Taj Mahal. When you visit, look out for the pink walls surrounding the mosque’s courtyard, which showcase the authority of women in the 19th century. Those who have visited the prayer hall have raved about its beauty. It occupies over 1000 square feet. For the best photos of the 27 edge ceiling domes and high minarets, I recommend visiting this mosque early in the morning.
Visit the bronze statue of Raja Bhoj at Upper Lake
![]()
Once upon a time, in the 10th century AD, King Boi named Bhopal. For the same reason, the municipality of Bhopal chose to erect a 32-foot-tall Raja Bhoj monument on the upper lake in tribute to the legendary academic monarch. Raja Bhoj ruled in the 10th century when Dar was the capital of Malwa province. If you have a chance in Dhar, visit Bhoj Shala. Back in Bhopal, Raja Bhoj was a learned man who loved literature, art and science. Exactly what this monument stands for! A framework that draws inspiration from each of Raja Bhoj’s passions.
Mahaveer Giri – an ancient Jain temple

An ancient Jain temple called Manua Bhan Ki Tekri is located on the hill of Lal Ghati. Bhopalis calls it Mahaveer Giri. It was recently renamed Mahaveer Giri by the governor of Madhya Pradesh. Without a doubt, this is one of the most fascinating tourist attractions in Bhopal. The mountain is named after Mantua, a mocker who was given the land by Raja Bhoj after he pleases him with his amusing abilities.

The adventure becomes even more spectacular if you take the ropeway to the temple. You can visit the temple for free, but a two-way ropeway will cost 66 rupees. The next best option is to drive! The temple’s history dates back to the 10th century, when a group of Jains chose to build a Buddhist temple. Afterwards, Manua Bhan Ki Tekri with seven caves was created 1300 feet above the ground. However, photography is absolutely prohibited inside the shrine.
Tour the 18th century Mosque of Moti

Moti Masjid is a magnificent 18th-century pearl-white mosque with an elaborate facade and soaring red towers. Built in the 18th century by Sikander Jahan Begum, this mosque is where you’ll find yourself admiring the grandeur of the Mughal era of the past. The entire mosque is made of marble and it sits on a plinth with a large courtyard. The Moti Masjid is characterized by its two towering crimson spires and domes with golden spires. Worth a visit without a doubt!
Van Vihar National Park Day Trip
![]()
Finally, take a day trip from Bhopal to Van Vihar National Park, which offers vast green landscapes and breathtaking views at any time of the day. Van Vihar is a zoo based on the principle of “Wonderful”. Every animal in the park is either adopted as an orphan or as part of an exchange program. No, voluntary captive! In addition, several ditches, walls and barbed wire fences were built to prevent poachers from entering the park. This may not be a royal tour, but I’m sure you’ll enjoy driving through this lovely park and would appreciate me recommending it in the first place.
So pack your things and visit this Navabi city this season. Trust me, you’ve probably never tasted the kind of food you get at the local market in Bhopal. Special food for Eid al-Fitr can be found around the mosque and in the Chhota Talab area, which is famous for serving the most delicious and aromatic dishes in Bhopal. Let Bhopal surprise you at every corner.
