Brave announced a new feature called Discussions that aims to eliminate the shortcomings of traditional search engines by showing more results in web forums.
Discuss enhancing results in Brave Search with actual conversations related to queries. The ultimate goal is to provide users with information about what real people are saying on a topic.
Developed by the same developers as the open-source web browser, Brave Search is working to overcome “SEO spam,” which is defined as content made for search engines, not humans.
Brave seeks to maintain privacy and provide more useful search results
To de-prioritize marketing-focused and machine-generated copy, discussions in Brave Search combed through forum threads on Reddit and Stack Exchange.
Results are then displayed in the breakout box whenever the browser’s search algorithm deems them relevant. Brave intends to add more resources to the discussion soon.
Brave is available on its desktop and mobile browsers, and hopefully these results will be especially useful for users with product, current affairs, travel, computer programming and coding, or highly specific questions.
With over 12 million daily queries recently, Brave Search offers a privacy-centric alternative to Google. Discussions maintains Brave’s promise not to track users, while seeking to provide more useful search results.
This is just the first step in Brave’s efforts to expand the appeal of its search engine by delivering higher-quality results.
Its next move will be brave goggleswhich will allow users to perform searches based on their own filters and rules.
Features come from users questioning the quality of Google searches
In an April 19 Reddit post, user PizzaInteraction asked a question, “Does anyone think Google search quality is degrading fast?“
As of this writing, a post to r/NoStupidQuestions has received more than 40,500 votes and nearly 3,000 responses, many of which support the position that SEO strategies negatively impact the search engine giant’s results.
In the top comment, user Pierson230 said:
“I find myself adding ‘Reddit’ to searches a lot because at least it shows people asking/answering questions like mine. There’s nothing worse than linking to a bunch of poorly written ‘articles’ that are Links to the 10 best widgets and links to Amazon products in the body of the email.”
The thread comes on the heels of a viral blog post on February 15 by search engine blogger DKB titled “Google Search is Dying.” Google searches using the term “Reddit” have steadily increased, the article said, attributed to users’ trust in the social networking site’s responses.
