What is a burger bowl?
The Burger Bowl is an American salad meal inspired by the ingredients and flavors of a burger. While some versions are made with rice, this burger bowl recipe is grain-free. That means no rice (or bread). In its place are plenty of chopped lettuce, juicy tomatoes and onions. Other traditional burger toppings are often added, such as cheese, pickles, and fries. Condiments such as ketchup, mayonnaise and mustard are also common. Once assembled or discarded, it makes a quick lunch or dinner option.

Fresh vegetables add crunch, creaminess and even natural sweetness to every bite. Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post for exact quantities.
- Hamburger Patty—— You can use homemade or store-bought.
- salt and pepper – Kosher salt and fresh black pepper are best.
- Cheddar cheese – Choose from white, mild or sharp.
- Lettuce- I prefer crunchy green leaf varieties like iceberg or romaine lettuce.

- spicy pickles – Try my recipes or add your favorite.
- Sweet potato fries—— Feel free to use regular fries if you prefer.
- red onion—— You can use white or yellow onions instead.
For the sauce
- Mayo—— I prefer full-fat mayonnaise, but low-fat or plant-based mayonnaise will work too.
- ketchup – Do not replace it with regular tomato sauce.

Ingredients and serving suggestions
This burger bowl recipe is great if you want to add extra toppings like sweet corn, crispy bacon, or BBQ sauce. I like to match it Bacon-Wrapped Stuffed Jalapenos or Cheesy Bacon Stuffed Peppers On the side. If you like French fries and don’t mind eating more, try mine Baked French Fries with Roasted Aioli or Roasted Garlic Parmesan Fries.
How to store and reheat extra items
Separating the ingredients in the bowl will prevent the lettuce and chips from absorbing excess moisture and becoming soft.
- refrigerator: Store the patties separately from the rest of the ingredients. Meatloaf can be refrigerated for up to 5 days and remaining vegetables for 3 days.
- To reheat them: All you have to do is reheat the patties and fries. Heat in the microwave in 15 second increments or on the stove over medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes per side. The French fries will need to cook on the stove for about 7-8 minutes, stirring occasionally.
