The Carolina Panthers announced on Thursday that quarterback Cam Newton will return to the team. Many fans are excited to hear the news.
After winning the 2010 Heisman Trophy with the Auburn Tigers, Newton was selected by the Panthers in the first round of the 2011 draft and spent nine seasons with the team. While playing for the Panthers, Newton led the team to participate in four playoffs, three division titles and the 2015 Super Bowl.
Newton was also rated National Football League Won the MVP in 2015, but in the next few seasons, he struggled with multiple injuries and was finally released by the team in 2019. Newton continued to play for the New England Patriots in the 2020 season, but his return to Carolina on Thursday triggered an exciting reaction from countless NFL fans.
Twitter user Mr_MooreOVO wrote, “Killa Cam’s return @CameronNewton is worth it”, and attached a gif of the quarterback he had previously played with the Panthers.
“To commemorate the return of Cam Newton, let us relive one of the greatest taunts of all time,” Twitter User Slim wrote that it included a video of Newton celebrating after a touchdown against the Tennessee Titans in the 2015 season.
Twitter user Mr.Sniper1710 wrote: “I don’t care if he is at his peak, it’s really exciting to hear this news. Let’s go to @Cameron1Newton and enjoy it there,” and attach a piece of Newton to do his iconic Superman’s gif touchdown celebration.
Some of Newton’s former teammates also reacted to the news and expressed their support for the three-time Pro Bowl quarterback.
Jonathan Stewart, who was a running back for the Panthers during the 2015 Super Bowl, wrote, “cam is back at LFG @Panthers.”
Former Panthers tight end Greg Olsen shared the gif of Terrell Owens, and he said “That’s my quarterback.”
Former Panthers wide receiver old Steve Smith wrote: “He is called Superman, but welcomes Mr. Newton back.”
The NFL Twitter account shared a video of the top game between Newton and the Panthers and wrote “He is baaaaaaaaack”.
The Panthers also posted a photo of Newton and team owner David Tepper, with the caption saying: “Together again.”
The iconic Saga production company founded by Newton also released a video after the press release showing the quarterback’s time spent with the Panthers, his struggle with injuries, his release and subsequent return, which played The background of the song “I’m Going Home”.
However, some other fans were not satisfied with Newton’s return to the Panthers.
Twitter user Marcus Eriksson wrote: “I’m glad that Cam Newton had the opportunity to prove that he is still stunned.”

Twitter user Jimmy OG had a similar response, writing: “Anyone who thinks Cam Newton is the Carolina answer is delusional at best. They just get worse.”

Shortly after the team’s quarterback Sam Darnold suffered a shoulder injury last week, Newton returned to the Panthers and is expected to be out for four to six weeks. According to ESPN reports, Newton’s trade with the Panthers is awaiting a medical examination. The team’s backup quarterback PJ Walker will play against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
ESPN also reported that the Panthers head coach Matt Ruhr said on Thursday that he would not consider any “hypotheses” surrounding Newton, but pointed out that he was considering all options regarding the team’s quarterback situation.
