Why is cauliflower steak often called steak?
Cauliflower Steak gets its name because it's often served as a vegetarian alternative to steak! When sliced, it also takes on a steak-like shape.
Required raw materials
- cauliflower: You will need two heads of broccoli to make 4 steaks.
- Egg wash: Our egg wash is made by mixing eggs, water and salt. This helps the crumbs stick and crisps up the outside.
- Bread crumbs: The breadcrumbs are a combination of almond flour, Italian seasoning, garlic granules, sea salt, and optional red pepper flakes.
- Ingredients: You can top your roasted cauliflower with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, fresh basil, and red pepper flakes for the perfect Parmesan-cheesy vegetarian chicken pretense!
How to cut cauliflower steak so it doesn't fall apart?
It's almost inevitable that the cauliflower will fall apart at least a little bit. You'll definitely end up with some spare florets.
This is the slicing method that works best for me:
- Start by carefully removing the outer leaves of the cauliflower.
- Arrange the cauliflower on the stems and cut off any rounded edges.
- Once the edges are all smooth, cut the remaining portion of the cauliflower into 1/2-inch thick “steaks.”
How to Make Roasted Cauliflower with Parmesan Cheese
This Cauliflower Parmesan recipe is so easy. It's ready to go in the oven in just a few easy steps!
- Cut the cauliflower: Cut each head of cauliflower into two cauliflower “steaks” as directed above.
- Bread and Baking: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs. In another bowl, stir together almond flour and seasonings. Start by tossing the cauliflower in the eggs, then add the flour mixture. Place on a greased baking sheet, drizzle with oil, and bake at 400°F for 10 minutes, flip, and bake for an additional 12 minutes.
- Add toppings, bake, and serve: Once the cauliflower is nice and crispy, remove the baking sheet from the oven and spread each cauliflower steak with tomato sauce and cheese. Place them back in the oven and bake until the cheese is melted. Serve hot with your choice of pasta!
Watch the cauliflower roasting process closely! The cheese will go from completely melted to burnt very quickly.

Food recommendations
Roasted cauliflower steak is best served warm right out of the oven.I like to serve them with gluten-free pasta, zucchini noodles or spaghetti squash And extra seamen!
Just like that, it was a very satisfying meal. However, it pairs perfectly with many of your favorite things side dishes also. Here are some recipes you can make to bulk up your meals:
Tips and Notes
- Leave room for baking. Make sure the cauliflower steaks have enough room on the pan while grilling. If they touch, the outside will become soggy instead of crispy.
- Check the texture. Check that the cauliflower steak is tasty and tender before adding toppings. You should be able to pierce them with a fork easily. If there is still resistance after baking, more time is needed.
- Prepare in advance? Slice the cauliflower and store in the refrigerator to prepare. It will last 3-5 days.

How to store them!
Leftover cauliflower parmesan cheese can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 4-5 days.
To reheat, simply return the cauliflower to the baking sheet in the oven and bake at 350°F until warmed through and re-crisp.
