Hua Chunying called on the Taliban to “ensure a smooth transition of power”, keep their promises, and establish an “open and inclusive Islamic government” through negotiations to ensure the safety of Afghans and foreign citizens.
Hua said that the Chinese Embassy in Kabul is still operating, although Beijing began to evacuate Chinese citizens from Kabul a few months ago when the security situation deteriorated.
In a statement on Monday, the embassy told Chinese citizens staying in Afghanistan to “watch the security situation closely” and stay indoors.
US President Joe Biden promised to completely withdraw US troops before September 11, marking the end of the two decades of war.
But Washington was shocked by the rapid collapse of the Afghan government and the full advancement of the Taliban.
China has repeatedly criticized it for thinking that the US hastily withdrawing troops from Afghanistan is a leadership failure.
