Chinese-Canadian pop star Wu Yifan faces arrest on suspicion of rape

Wu first became famous as a member of the K-pop boy band EXO, then left in 2014 and started a successful personal career as a singer, actor, model and variety show judge.

Since Du’s allegations, more so-called victims have spoken out online, accusing Wu’s employees of predatory behavior, including inviting them to carnival karaoke parties.

In late July, Wu, who also had Canadian citizenship, was detained by the police.

The China Performing Arts Association stated in a statement on Monday that, as a top celebrity, it is “intolerable for the industry” to violate the law and have a negative impact on society.

“After the legal proceedings are over, the artist involved in the case, Wu Yifan, will also face continued industry resistance and other penalties,” the organization added using Wu’s Chinese name.

“Artists and management companies should learn from this case.”
