As we age, it is important to increase our protein intake because we absorb fewer and fewer amino acids from food. These amino acids are essential for our immune health, brain function, hormone and enzyme function, and muscle growth. Eating more protein helps ensure you have the building blocks you need to repair and rebuild your muscles after exercise.

Chocolate Protein Donuts
yield: Serves 6 (12 donuts)
you will need: Mixing bowl, measuring cups and spoons, donut molds, spatula, cooling rack, food processor or blender (optional)

raw material:
- Serves 4 (136 g) I
chocolate protein - 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup oat flour (I grind my own oats in a blender – then re-measure to get the correct amount)
- 4 eggs
- 2 T nut butter
- 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
route:
- Preheat oven to 350 F.
- In a mixing bowl, combine protein powder, baking powder, and oat flour until combined.
- In another bowl, mix together eggs, nut butter, Greek yogurt, and maple syrup. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and mix well to form a smooth batter.
- Pour the batter evenly into the donut molds (you'll need to spray them with cooking oil if they're not non-stick) and bake for 12 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven, wait a few minutes, then transfer the donuts to a cooling rack to cool.
- If adding frosting or toppings, wait until the donuts are completely cool and then try some of the frosting options below.
- Serve and enjoy!
For the frosting (optional):
- Use Greek yogurt and top with chocolate chips or some sugar-free powdered sugar! Or you could use a flavored Greek yogurt, such as strawberry, and add chopped fruit or nuts to garnish.

*I find it helpful to line a cookie sheet with foil and place my molds on top for baking because it's much easier to control the pan than it is to handle the batter in a silicone mold.
