About the artwork
The art collection will include profile pictures NFTs, which are unique digital avatars. Some examples include CryptoPunks, a series of pixelated portraits displayed on the Ethereum blockchain. These works were designed by Larva Labs, the creative of John Watkinson and Matt Hall. Each piece is made using a unique algorithm to assign features, such as mohawk, earrings or goatee.
Although the valuation has not yet been announced, Christie’s senior digital art expert Noah Davis shared that it may be sold at a high price. An incarnation of the Larva Lab transaction received a staggering 1,500 ETH, or approximately $4.7 million.
Avatar for sale ChristieIt is expected to be more expensive. Considering that 9 CryptoPunks are priced at US$16.9 million, this is not surprising-a far cry from the estimated US$7 million to US$9 million.
There are currently 10,000 pink-6,039 males, 3,480 females and 9 aliens.
In addition to CryptoPunks, the exhibition will also showcase a PFP called Meebits. This is Larva Lab’s follow-up to CryptoPunks, which is also presented in low-resolution characters. Unlike CryptoPunks, it displays the entire body and presents it in 3D. A Meebits expected to be sold at a high price is a skeleton wearing a Reservoir Dogs suit.
