As we approached the small village of Chalakudy in Kerala, my partner Jeejo Hussain suggested that I visit St. Mary’s Forane Church. This decisiveness meant it had to be an amazing church, and I was not disappointed. Hussein’s joy was palpable as we approached the end of the path leading to a magnificent church. The 600-year-old St. Mary’s Church sits on the fourth corner of the Three Square Crossing. Chalakudy is one of the Christian districts of Kerala, and most Christians are Syro-Malabar Catholics. The Christian faith is thought to have started in Charakdi shortly after Jesus’ death, when St. Thomas, one of Jesus’ twelve apostles, came to India.

Chalakudy residents are mainly from upper-middle-class families who place a high value on spiritual and traditional values. St. Mary’s Forane Church in Chalakudy is one of ten Foranes or deaneries that make up the parish of Irinjalakuda. The Diocese of Irinjarakuda was established in 1978 when the Diocese of Trisur was divided into two. Chalakudy Forane has 16 parishes. The Apostle Thomas arrived in the thriving commercial center and important port of Kodungallur in AD 52. The parish was founded in AD 600, and the first church was built by the early Christian community to whom Thomas converted.

Originally designated on Palace Road, the church was not transferred to its current location until 1300 AD. As a sanctuary for the Marians, the church saw a lot of devotion to the Virgin Mary. At the entrance stands a huge statue of St. Mary. In October 2000, a Marian grotto similar to Lourdes was built on the church grounds. Inside, the vaulted ceilings are just as grand. The idea for the Fax of the Holy Land came from the priest. Thomas Panjkaran. The goal is to create a feeling of visiting holy places in Israel and surrounding countries.

As for St. Joseph’s Church Karayamparambu, my driver told me that it is one of the most admirable Catholic churches in Angamaly; when we stopped here on the way from Kochi Airport to Athirapali. After that, he said the church was built in 1960. This is one of the most important churches you will see on the Kochi-Kanyakumari highway, and certainly one of the most impressive. have you been here?

Church of St. Francis Assisi, Elangipura

This beautiful church is tucked away behind the palm-fringed streets of Elanjipra, between Cochin International Airport and the Niraamaya Samroha resort in Kerala. Thanks to Jeejo Hussain, my cheerful driver drove me from the airport to the resort, stopping at this lovely pink St Francis Assisi church along the way. Its appearance bears a striking resemblance to a Disney castle, but it is much smaller.

Church of St. Francis Assisi Bethlehem

St. Francis Assissi Church was established in 1998, next to Elinjipra bus station and St. Mary’s Church. Irinjalakuda Eparchy is its parish name. priest. Paul Madassery OFM is a parish priest. The history of the church is unknown, but worth a visit if you happen to pass by the area. Like any other church, it has lovely architecture and a peaceful atmosphere.

St. Peter’s Church, Poovathingal

In the last week of January, on my way to the airport from Niraamaya Samroha in Chalakudy, I stopped at the exquisite Poovathingal Church in Pariyaram. The Diocese of Poovathingal and the Diocese of Irinjalakuda Eparchy share this St. Peter’s Church on Chalakudy and Anamal roads in Poovathingal. The ceiling domes of the Poovathingal Church are striking, with one featuring a statue of Jesus with outstretched arms rising to the top of the dome. St. Peter, commonly known as Simon Peter, was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ and an early church leader.

St. Peter's Church, Poovathingal

According to Eastern Christian tradition, St. Peter is considered the first pope of Rome and the first bishop of Antioch. Jesus promised Peter a specific seat in the church. According to Christian belief, Peter was crucified in Rome during the reign of Emperor Nero. As such, all early Christian denominations regard Peter as a distinguished saint, as well as the founder of the Church of Antioch and the Diocese of Rome. Poovathingal Autorikshaw Stand and Arabian Nights Restaurant are close to this lovely church.

St. Anthony’s Church, Connacouge

I found another lovely church on Chalakudy Anamala Road near Konnakuzhy Sree Subrahmanya swami temple. St. Anthony’s Church is located in Konnakuzhy, near Swapna and Sankar shops. Built in the style of Tagoba, this ornate church has a distinctive appearance. This beautiful and spacious Syro-Malabar Catholic Church was built in 1961 in a quiet area with many trees on the way from Chalakudy to Athirappilly. The parish name is Irinjalakuda Eparchy and the parish priest is the priest. Varghese Vadakepedika.

St. Anthony's Church, Connacouge

On June 22, 1978, Pope Paul VI’s bull, Trichuuriensis Eparchiae, created the Diocese of Irinjalakuda by forking the ancient Diocese of Trichur, and Mar James Pazhayattil was appointed as the first bishop. Because it contains Kodungallur, the cradle of Christianity in India, this large parish was consecrated in the footsteps of the Apostle St. Thomas. The parish includes the southern half of the former Trichur parish, extending from the Karuwannur and Kurumali rivers in the north to the Charakudi river in the south.

The Diocese of Iringjarakuda has 48,932 families and 2,58,101 Catholics, covering an area of about 1,180 square kilometers. Mar Pauly Kannookadan is the current bishop. At 9 am, the Malayalam service is held at St Anthony’s Church. Holy Masses are held at 6.30, 6.45 and 9.30 in the morning except Sunday. While you’re there, you can visit the church and buy refreshments from nearby merchants. There are car depots and bus services nearby.

Angamari Little Flower Church

On my recent trip to Kerala, the Little Flower Church in Angamaly was one of the last churches I visited. The Syro-Malabar Catholic Church in Nedumbassery is dedicated to Saint Thérèse of Lisieux. Its front façade is impressively designed, with Santa Teresa of Lissie in the center, flanked by wings of angels.

Angamari Little Flower Church

The Little Flower Church is affiliated with the Kaprassery Parish and the Ernakulam – Angamaly Archeparch Parish. This lovely cathedral is very close to the Cochin International Airport. It takes about 10-15 minutes to drive there.

Please share your favourite Kerala churches in the comments below and I will try my best to visit them on my next trip.
