Columbia University Davos 2022
At this year’s World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland, Columbia University featured prominently in the week-long event, when both the energy and climate crises dominated the discussion. Columbia University’s experts are the go-to resource for public and private sector leaders seeking analysis, insights and actionable ideas on how to address these twin challenges.

The Columbia Climate Institute and the Columbia Center for Global Energy Policy hosted a dinner featuring U.S. climate envoy John Kerry and many other top energy and climate leaders. These include: U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, from Rhode Island; Cardinal Peter Teckson, from Ghana; Lawrence Tubiana, principal architect of the Paris Agreement; President and CEO of the Bezos Earth Fund Andrew Steele; and Tom Donilon, a former national security adviser and current chairman of the BlackRock Investment Institute. Participants engaged in timely dialogue on how to respond to Europe’s current energy crisis while accelerating the transition to clean energy.
At Davos, Co-Dean Jason Bordoff moderated a panel discussion on the intersection of energy, climate, food and inflation with Robert Habeck, Catherine MacGregor, Fatih Birol, Hardeep Singh Puri and Vicki Hollub.
Columbia University experts have also been instrumental in a series of plenary meetings, dinners and side events organized by businesses and NGOs. Jason Bordoff, Co-Dean of the Columbia Climate Institute, moderated the energy opening session entitled “Energy Outlook: Overcoming the Crisis” with panellists including Robert Habeck, German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action; Catherine MacGregor, CEO of French energy company Engie; International Energy Agency Fatih Birol, Executive Director; Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Oil and Gas Minister of India; Vicki Hollub, CEO of Occidental Petroleum.
Co-Dean Bodoff launched an open discussion: “How do we respond to these multiple crises? How can governments, companies and civil society work together to ensure an affordable energy supply today, while continuing to accelerate the clean energy transition because we are not on our way? climate goals?” Watch the entire session here.
