It doesn’t check all of our boxes for CRMs—some of its competitors like HubSpot and Salesforce are superior overall. However, we found Copper CRM to be the best solution for a specific type of customer:  Google-driven businesses that value simplicity.

Copper CRM isn’t one of our top CRM picks because it’s missing essential features, like workflow automations, integrations, custom fields, and reporting on the entry-level plan—you have to pay quite a bit to unlock those features. It doesn’t quite match up with other CRM solutions on the market and comes with a higher price tag than most of our favorites.

But it’s a powerful system for businesses that rely heavily on Google Workspace, Gmail, and Google Calendar.

Copper CRM: The Good and The Bad

Although Copper CRM didn’t make it into our top seven, it’s an excellent CRM solution for Google-heavy businesses and has several redeeming qualities specifically for those businesses. However, it’s lack of features and non-existent usefulness outside of Google Workspace are its biggest drawbacks.

The Good

Google Workspace Compatibility: An industry problem Copper CRM is focused on solving is the lack of integration with current software systems like Google Workspace.

Copper CRM is fully compatible with Workspace, and it is the only sales automation solution endorsed by Google.

The software is designed to mimic the look of Google products. This makes it easy to use for people already familiar with Google products.

It syncs with Google Workspace apps like Google Contacts and Google Calendar, and it is directly accessible from Gmail. It appears as a sidebar within Gmail and can be hidden if needed.

Automation: Copper CRM is focused on the time-to-value ratio. It aims to provide the maximum value possible while limiting the time it takes for its users to input data manually. Some of its features include workflow and task automation for users who sign up for the two higher tiers.

It also aims to get rid of manual data entry. When a user goes through his or her Gmail inbox, Copper will suggest adding email contacts. It will even auto-populate contact entries using email signatures, LinkedIn profiles, and company websites.

Copper takes advantage of PieSync Integration to make any edits or contact changes for you. If a modification is made to a Google Contact, it is automatically updated in Copper. If an edit is made in Copper, it automatically updates in Google Contacts.

Simplicity: Copper CRM is designed to be simple. The software has a handy sidebar where users can search for tasks, tracked emails, opportunities, and companies. A link to contact the Support team is also included. If users have issues, they can simply reach out to this team.

Every contact profile is separated into a Details, Activity, and Related tab. The Details tab allows users to see all the person’s information. The Activity tab keeps track of the interactions between the user and the contact. Aspects of the contact logging can be automated, and the tab does an excellent job of keeping communication activity organized. The Related tab can be used to set up tasks, opportunities, and events.

It is also worth noting the Copper CRM mobile app can be downloaded for on-the-go use. 

Lead Management: Copper CRM features a stellar lead management tool. This tool helps users identify and record leads. Leads can be entered manually but remember, Copper CRM was built to make data entry less time-consuming. By using the import feature, contacts can be mass uploaded from Microsoft Excel, Salesforce, and LinkedIn. New leads can also be set up from incoming calls.

Copper CRM will even act as a personal assistant by searching through emails and making suggestions. If it sees a contact within an email conversation that could be a potential lead, it will let the user know. The user can then accept or decline to add the lead.  

Triggers can be set to automatically assign tasks to a lead. Reminders can be set for following up, setting tasks, or scheduling calls. When a lead has been converted, these contacts will automatically transfer to the sales pipeline list.

Customized Reporting: Copper CRM’s reporting features aren’t just customizable, they allow users to drag and drop elements onto templates in order to create the exact reports you and your team need.

You get both flexibility and visibility from Copper Reports. See pipeline reports on opportunities won and lost across multiple pipelines. Generate activity reports to analyze conversations with prospects, leads, and other contacts. Create reports for anything so you can see everything in detail, all in one dashboard.

And, of course, Copper syncs with Google Sheets to bring in any and all manually input data you may have.

However, it’s important to note that custom reporting is only available on the Professional or Business plans. Basic users can only access legacy reports, which don’t offer a lot of customization options.

Quick Onboarding: Setting up or switching to Copper is a quick and painless experience. Copper focuses on getting new users set up within days, not weeks or months like some of its competitors.

There are helpful guides and support staff that help businesses switch over quickly. The staff has stellar reviews, and it does an excellent job of navigating users through a headache-free onboarding process.

Security: Security is often overlooked when choosing a CRM tool. People assume security is built-in, which can be a grave mistake. We are happy to report Copper places extreme importance on the security of users and their data. Copper implements first-class backup management and data resiliency systems. These security systems are tested periodically by third parties to ensure they are held to the highest industry standards. 

Copper uses a strict access control policy to protect user data internally. All synced emails are private, and admins and account owners are the only users allowed to view them all. It takes care of critical events through a comprehensive policy on incident management and data confidentiality. Finally, Copper CRM strictly adheres to all SSO, OpenID, API, Google Cloud, and OAuth best practices.

Industry Range: Copper CRM is helpful in several different industries. It helps agencies with client relations. It helps real estate businesses manage more listings. Copper allows tech companies to scale quickly without worrying about manual data entry. It also works with consulting and corporate development firms to manage deals.

The Bad

Lack of Features: The biggest drawback of Copper CRM is the lack of features it provides its users. It is designed for simplicity. Therefore, it is missing many of the advanced features offered by its competitors. For example, it doesn’t offer users a dedicated account manager, and click-to-call requires third-party software.

Lack of Flexibility Outside Google Workspace: Copper is designed to work with Google-driven businesses. It’s an ill-equipped software for companies that don’t use Google. If a business uses a different email hosting service like Office 365, Microsoft Outlook, or Yahoo, we recommend looking into other CRM tool options. Copper is not flexible and is best for Google Workspace users only.

Copper CRM Pricing and Options

Copper CRM Pricing

Copper CRM offers three different plans.

The three pricing options are Basic, Professional, and Business. All plans include a 14-day free trial. 

The Basic plan costs $25 per user per month billed annually, or $29 per user per month billed monthly. There is a three-user limit to the Basic package.

The Professional plan is suited for growing SMBs. It costs $59 per user per month billed annually.

The third pricing option is the Business plan. This is for larger businesses that are already scaling. It costs $119 per user per month billed annually.

Copper’s pricing for the higher tiers is competitive. Overall, Copper is much cheaper than HubSpot and some other expensive competitors.

We also appreciate the 14-day trial it offers for all plans.

However, the three-user cap on the basic plan seems unnecessary. Many other CRM tools we researched do not enforce a user cap.

Copper CRM Basic

Copper CRM’s Basic plan is the lowest tier and is suitable for new users and small teams.

It’s an okay low-level package, but it’s missing a chunk of key features.

Along with the three-person limit, it has a 2,500-contact limit. The contact limit isn’t bad compared to competitors’ basic plans.

The Basic plan allows for most Google Workspace integration features, which is useful.

Basic users can add a Chrome extension, and the CRM integrates with Google Calendar, Gmail, and Google Contacts.

It also provides project management, multiple pipelines, and team collaboration.

The Basic plan is missing workflow automation and bulk email sending. It is also missing most of the software integrations, and it has reporting and customization limitations.

Like most basic packages, the price is low, and the features are limited.

Keep in mind the user limit. Unless you want multiple people sharing the same username, you’ll need to upgrade.

Copper CRM Professional

The Copper CRM Professional plan is best for growing teams and SMBs.

We’re happy to report the Professional plan dumps the three-user limit. It allows as many users as its customer needs.

There is also a contact cap at 15,000. This is extremely generous compared to other CRM tools.

For example, HubSpot’s $800 per month mid-tier package has a contact cap of 2,000. After 2,000, you are required to pay more for additional contacts.

While HubSpot is the best for most, Copper clearly outperforms it in this aspect.

The Professional Copper plan also includes every Google Workspace integration.

It allows unlimited bulk email templates and sends. It also includes more software integrations, teaming up with programs like DocuSign, HubSpot, MailChimp, and QuickBooks.

This package is more customizable than the Basic, and it allows for different currencies to be used.

The Professional plan includes most of the features Copper has to offer. We think this is an excellent plan compared to other CRM’s mid-tier packages.

Copper CRM Business

The Copper CRM Business plan is best suited for larger businesses that are already scaling.

This plan has no limit on the number of contacts that can be added. This is more considerate than some of its competitors.

In comparison, HubSpot’s highest tier package allows only 10,000 contacts. After 10,000, users must pay more.

Copper CRM’s Business plan gives users access to everything Copper has to offer.

Besides features offered in the Professional plan, this one also includes email sequencing, custom embedded integration options, leaderboards, and goal tracking.

There is an immense amount of customization with this plan, but there’s a lack of exclusive customer service benefits.

The Copper support team is available to users of all plans, and there is no mention of extra one-on-one support with the Business plan. This is different from other CRM tools.

For example, Salesflare’s highest-tier option provides users with customized training and a dedicated account manager.

CRM Business is a solid plan, but the Professional plan already includes most of Copper’s features and has a high contact limit.

Unless the added features of the Business plan are essential, we recommend sticking with the Professional plan for businesses needing less than 10,000 contacts.

We like Copper CRM because of its Google Workspace compatibility, automation, simplicity, lead management, customized reporting, quick onboarding, security, and ability to work with different industries. The three plans offered have competitive pricing and features.

This isn’t the right CRM tool for businesses wanting all the advanced features and doesn’t regularly use Google Workspace.

For Google-driven businesses looking for a simple, automation-driven CRM tool, Copper is the right fit.
