Ternate, Indonesia (Associated Press)-An Indonesian man with coronavirus pretended to be his wife and boarded a domestic flight. He wore a veil and covered his face, holding a fake ID and PCR test results. Negative.
But the cover did not last long.
According to the police, on July 18, a flight attendant on a Citilink flight from Jakarta to Ternate, North Maluku noticed that the man was changing clothes in the bathroom.
“He bought a ticket in his wife’s name and brought his ID card, PCR test results, and a vaccination card with his wife’s name on it. All the documents are in his wife’s name,” Ternate Police Chief Aditya Aditya Laksimada said after arresting the man during the landing. He can only be identified by his initials.
The police took him for a COVID-19 test and the result was positive.
The man is currently in self-isolation at home, and the police said the investigation will continue.
Indonesia is being affected by a surge in the coronavirus, with a total of 2.9 million reported cases and 77,583 deaths.
Restrictions on non-essential travel have been tightened during the Eid al-Adha holiday, including mandatory negative coronavirus tests and public gatherings.
