A couple stole $20,000 worth of perfume after crashing a van into the entrance of the pharmacy two years ago. They are now serving a sentence, thanks to the clue left by the woman—her wallet.
According to the Wiltshire police in the UK, crashing the vehicle into the store caused approximately $18,000 in damage
On June 23, 2019, 33-year-old Michael Denyer and 44-year-old Christina Colton (Christina Colton) were both from Bristol because they were in Trobe, about 90 miles west of London. A Boots store in Trowbridge caused property damage and theft and was sentenced at Swindon Criminal Court on July 6. Boots in the UK are similar to CVS and Rite Aid in the US
According to a press release issued by the police, Danyer will be sentenced to three years in prison and Colton will be sentenced to two years and nine months in prison, including the sentence for this incident and two sentences for failing to surrender.
The police statement said that the early morning robbery was photographed by the store’s security camera, showing a van driving into the front of the store, and both Danyer and Colton got out of the car wearing headscarves to hide their identities.
“They broke into the cabinet and stole perfume and aftershave worth £15,221 (US$20,990), then returned to the car to escape the scene.”
Due to the damage, the Boots store was temporarily closed, but the police found a wallet with Colton’s identification at the scene.
Danye was arrested in Bristol the next night. The police said that they found evidence on his cell phone and on the surveillance cameras of the store on the day of the crime. They saw him conducting investigations before the burglary, proving that the crime was planned in advance.
A statement from Detective Officer James Gatherum of the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau said: “Colton has repeatedly tried to evade justice for this crime. She has been holding an arrest warrant since she failed to attend a court hearing before.”
Since being accused of burglary, Danyer has been in prison for unrelated crimes.
“Today’s verdict marks the end of the long journey since the incident, but after a large amount of evidence collection and the delay caused by Colton, I am very happy to see that both defendants have been sentenced to long sentences,” Gatherum’s statement said.
According to government statistics, Wiltshire where crimes occurred is one of the 10 safest counties in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The most common crime there is not burglary and theft. They are violent and sexual crimes, and approximately 23 out of every 1,000 residents are affected.
