How to Make Parmesan Creamy Onions

The key to this creamed onion recipe is to keep the onion rings whole and intact. Do not separate the layers. Scroll to the bottom of the post to see the full recipe card.

  • Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 375F. Line a baking sheet with baking paper and set aside.
  • Season them. Spread the onion rings on the prepared baking sheet without breaking the layers. Drizzle with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Bake them. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove from oven. Turn oven temperature to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Make the sauce. Combine heavy cream, wine, mustard, thyme, and salt in a small saucepan. Simmer it for 5 minutes and then remove it from the heat.
  • Assemble the casserole. Carefully transfer grilled onions to cast iron skillet or baking sheet. Just overlap them slightly. Pour the cream sauce over the top. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
  • Bake again. Cover the baking sheet with foil and bake for 15 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 5 minutes or until onions are lightly browned.
  • Serve. Remove it from the oven. Let cool for 5-10 minutes. Garnish with fresh thyme or parsley. Serve and enjoy!

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.

  3. Keep the onions intact, but remove the ends and peel. Cut into 1/4-inch thick rings. Place the rings on the prepared baking sheet, making sure to stay intact. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Bake for 15 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, combine heavy cream, cooking wine, mustard, thyme and salt in a small saucepan. Simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
  6. Once the onions are done. Remove from oven and turn heat to 450°F.
  7. Gently transfer the cooked onion rings to the baking sheet (do this if you need to stack them on top of each other), making sure to keep them intact.
  8. Pour cream mixture over onions and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
  9. Cover the baking sheet with foil and bake for 15 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and cook for another 5 minutes to brown the tops of the onions.
  11. Garnish with fresh thyme or parsley and serve.
