Tips for success

Make this delicious Pot Pulled Pork as sweet or spicy as you like. You can even add veggies!

  • Ask the butcher. Ask your butcher to remove all excess fat from the pork shoulder so you don't have to, saving prep time.
  • Made BBQ style. This recipe can easily be changed by swapping out the ketchup for your favorite barbecue sauce.
  • Take it easy. This is perfect if you're not in a hurry. Cook the pulled pork on low for 8-10 hours or until pulled apart and tender.
  • Turn the heat to high. Add 1/4-1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, hot sauce, or chili oil to the sauce and heat slightly.
  • Control sweetness. If you don't typically like sweeter pulled pork, don't add all the honey at once. Add a tablespoon at a time, tasting as you go, until the sweetness is to your liking.
  • Add more vegetables. Make this recipe heartier by adding 2 cups chopped mushrooms, carrots, or halved baby potatoes during the last hour of cooking.
