On Saturday morning, a domestic cat in Syracuse helped three residents escape the apartment fire.
When the fire broke out at 8:30 am EST, the residents were asleep.Barry Lasky, the deputy chief of the Syracuse Fire Department, told them that their domestic cat woke them up in time to evacuate Syracuse.
He said that when the firefighters arrived at the scene, the fire was strong, but they controlled the fire and extinguished it within 20 minutes.
The fire damage was limited to the first floor of the two-story apartment, but as firefighters needed to turn off the power to the entire building, all residents needed to evacuate.
The Red Cross disaster relief team will assist residents in resettling temporary shelters.
