“The tracer is two-way.” —— U.S. Army Ordnance
Dear readers,
Opening summary of the report of the House of Commons Defense Committee: Protect those who protect us: women in the armed forces from recruitment to civilian life, Published on July 25, 2021. It was shocking to read: “Although the army generally welcomes female soldiers today, we are seriously concerned that nearly 62% of female soldiers have suffered bullying, harassment and discrimination (BHD)- Too many military personnel and veterans who have completed our survey have been affected.” More than 4,000 female service personnel and female veterans participated in the survey, including 1,637 female service personnel and 2,469 veterans.
In addition, the report continues: “Our investigation received shocking evidence from female service workers that they had been subjected to bullying, sexual harassment, sexual assault, and rape, some of which-more disturbingly-involved acting Senior officials who acted illegally.”
The complaint system was judged to be “extremely poor” and the complaint was “covered”. The report states that this “lack of confidence in the system has resulted in 89% of male and female personnel in the regular army not filing a formal complaint against BHD.”
As more and more women are encouraged to enter the military to assume almost all available roles, despite the report’s findings, “nearly 90% of these military women would recommend the military to other women.”
The cross-party report details many measures currently being taken to correct the serious problems detailed in detail. It can be found at: https://committees.parliament.uk/publications/6959/documents/72771/default
Significant changes have taken place within the armed forces, especially in the past three decades. The shift to technology has opened up more equal opportunities, allowing all sectors of civil society to function. This report shows that compared with civil society, the traditional male-oriented attitude of the service sector is much slower in adapting to the new era of equality, which is not surprising in many respects. Aggression and physical violence have traditionally been considered the cornerstones of making soldiers effective, not only in the British army, but all over the world. But in this era of digital technology, this requirement is decreasing. Pushing services to be more inclusive in terms of gender and context is a big step forward, but the systems that manage this transition must evolve at the same pace.

The Crown Consortium, supported by the European Union, develops a multifunctional radio frequency system based on AESA

Laying the foundation for the next generation of multifunctional radio frequency (RF) systems based on Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) technology is the mission of the CROWN Alliance.
CROWN is a European active electronic scanning array with combined radar, communications and electronic warfare functions for military applications. It is a $11.8 million project and is expected to last 30 months.
In 2019, in accordance with the proposal of the European Union’s Defense Research Preparatory Action (PADR) managed by EDA to call for “Electromagnetic Spectrum Superiority”, an international alliance composed of 11 participants from seven countries has been established.
The CROWN consortium is coordinated by Indra (Spain) and brings together 11 leading industry members, research centers and a small and medium enterprise from seven EU countries: Indra (Spain), Thales (France), Office National d’Etudes et de Recherches Aerospatiales – ONERA (France), Hensoldt Sensors (Germany), Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (Germany), Saab (Sweden), Totalforsvarets Forskningsinstitut-FOI (Sweden) Dutch Applied Science Research Organization-TNO (Netherlands), Leonardo (Italy), Elettronica (Italy) And Baltijos Pazangiu Technologiju Institutas-BPTI (Lithuania).
The project will examine R&T activities at key technology, system, and component levels, and will seek to design, manufacture, and test small-scale prototypes.
PADR was established by the European Commission in 2017 to evaluate and demonstrate the added value of defense research and technology (R&T) supported by the European Union. According to EDA: “It paves the way for an appropriate European defense plan as part of the European Defense Fund (EDF), under the European Union’s multi-year financial framework (2021-2027).”
With the adversary catching up, the Ministry of Defense hopes to modernize the intelligence information structure

As a traditional information technology leader, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) is now aware that its opponents are challenging their advantages in areas such as cyber security, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and supply chain risk management.
“In order to meet these technical challenges, we must be united throughout the Department of Defense, how do we expand and operate IT infrastructure, and protect it to provide the most advanced technology,” said Cynthia J. Mendoza, Deputy Chief Information Officer of the Department of Defense ( Cynthia J. Mendoza) said. Interviewer Information Technology spoke on the GovExec forum last week.
Mendoza said that the future task is to “expand and implement IT support capabilities by using key advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, 5G wireless technology and quantum computing.”
She called for the “return to basics” method out of the need to understand “task results and results.” This will not only combine the experience of the Department of Defense, but also the experience of the intelligence community, international partners, the private sector, academia, and Congress.
