Elbit Systems Announces Contracts to Supply Precision Guidance Kits and Aircraft Self-Protection Systems to Customers in Asia Pacific

In recent weeks, Israel’s Elbit Systems has won contracts worth a combined $300 million with undisclosed customers in the Asia-Pacific region.

The first project, announced June 29, calls for the supply of up to $220 million worth of Lizard precision guidance kits that can be installed on existing unguided munitions to improve targeting accuracy and enable engagement with moving targets.

Elbit System claims the Lizard kit includes advanced seeker technology and tracking algorithms that enable unguided Western or Eastern munitions to track laser beams in challenging environmental conditions and precisely guide them to strike fast at longer ranges Moving and maneuvering targets.

“As high precision has become an operational imperative across all domains of warfare, the need for our precision fires capabilities continues to increase,” said Bezhalel Machlis, CEO of Elbit Systems.

He added: “The global armed forces need solutions that can effectively convert munitions stockpiles into capabilities relevant to modern warfare, especially given the lessons learned from recent military conflicts.”

The company then announced on July 5 that it had been awarded up to $80 million in contracts to provide direct infrared countermeasures (DIRCM) and airborne electronic warfare (EW) systems.

It will provide its C-Music DIRCM system as well as the infrared-based passive airborne warning system (IR-PAWS) for different types of aircraft.

“The growing threat to aircraft from shoulder-launched anti-aircraft missiles has increased the need for certified and operationally proven self-protection systems,” said Oren Sabag, General Manager, ISTAR & EW, Elbit Systems.

According to Elbit Systems, the C-Music DIRCM system is primarily designed to protect large transport aircraft from heat-seeking surface-to-air missiles. The system is contained in a fuselage-mounted pod and employs advanced jamming and missile detection technology to protect the host aircraft.

The Lizard contract will be executed within 15 months, while the DIRCM will be delivered within 24 months.
