Northeast India is a delightful amalgamation of cultural diversity, its topography echoing its aesthetic principles with equal passion. When I first traveled to Seven Sisters of the Northeast, I could hardly believe I was traveling across India. Although entire communities are occupied by several tribes and sub-tribes, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, meghalayaMizoram, Nagaland Tripura always welcomes you with a warm welcome. Despite being largely occupied by tribals, Northeast India maintains the highest literacy rate in India. Then, the stunning scenery will immediately draw you into its embrace!
The mesmerizing scenery of lush Nagaland, Meghalaya, Guwahati and neighboring areas matches the panoramas you usually see in Austria or Slovakia. Despite the rugged roads and distance, cascading waterfalls, long, steep forest slopes, raging rivers and one-horned rhinos make the journey worth it. Northeast India is a magical destination; whether it’s the lush flora and fauna beyond the centuries-old Brahmaputra Valley, or the Buddhist chants surrounding the mist-shrouded Himalayan valleys dotted with colorful monasteries.
I was surprised to find that in addition to being home to 2/3 of the world's rhinos, Northeast India also has 70% of the world's orchids. Assam is the largest and most accessible state among the seven northeastern states. Apart from exploring the wildlife, you can admire the “pristine” golden green rice fields and manicured tea plantations of Assam, as well as azure skies and overhanging rock faces. Assam is the birthplace of tea in India, and here you will find vast green-yellow plantations covering an area of 3,000 square kilometers.
Speaking of plantations, Pineapple, Outenga, Nora Bogori Plum, Nemu Tenga, Jolphai Olive and Kuji Thekera are some of the topical fruits that stimulate a healthy appetite. Music lovers should visit Kohima in Nagaland when the Hornbill Festival is held. Many music and trekking enthusiasts visit Northeast India during the festival. To explore the traditional canvas, visit the fascinating Bihu Festival of Assam and take a Nagaland tribal tour. No matter where you choose to go, you'll be surrounded by tourist attractions that are astonishing to the eyes.
