My favorite thing is getting out the slow cooker and cooking our dinners during my busy day. This is so convenient for us.
We work and I am also homeschooling my 2 sons and currently doing a masters at university so anything that makes our days a little easier is worth it!

One of my favorite slow cooker meals that my whole family enjoys is the Fakeaway Slow Cooker Kebab recipe.
I’m always a little skeptical when trying to imitate a classic dish because it never seems to taste the same! I kid you not, this is delicious and tastes as good as the real thing! It’s also healthier as it doesn’t drip with grease and is much lower in fat than store-bought kebabs.
The great thing about making your own favorite dishes is that after a few cooks, you can actually adapt the recipe to your own tastes. You can reduce the amount of spices if you don’t like it too spicy. If you like a little more zing, add more cayenne.
More on Kebabs
Back in the 17th century in the Ottoman Empire, seasoned and cooked slices of meat would be stacked on a horizontal rotisserie.
Some time later, vertical kebabs were launched in Bursa, Turkey in the middle of the 19th century. Kebab arrived in Greece around the 1920s and the first kebab shop arrived in London in 1966! Now, they’re a much-loved dish here for a number of reasons!
They’re a super popular choice for easy midweek dinners, and some folks stop by the chip shop on their way home from get off work to pick one up. As I discovered in my club years, they also make a great meal after a night out hehe! There’s more to this beloved versatile meal than buying from a chip/kebab shop, though.
Do I have to use a slow cooker?
not at all. This recipe can be easily adapted for the oven. However, I do recommend cooking this in the slow cooker as the meat will be more tender and juicy. I think the oven dries it out a bit which makes the meat tough. If you plan to cook it in the oven, wrap it in foil two or three times before cooking to ensure that all the delicious juices stay in the kebab meat and don’t run off into the oven tray.

How to serve kebabs?
Most people like to have their kebab served in traditional sliced pita bread with a side of salad and sauce, much like you would buy it at a chip shop. Many chip shops now serve donner kebab in naan or other flatbread, which is actually a more accurate description of traditional kebab. Store-bought flatbread is a great alternative to pita bread. You can also serve the meat in a grilled hamburger bun or brioche. Easily make the meal gluten-free by using the right bread, or you can even drop the bread entirely and serve it with just salad and chips.
The sauces that go with your kebabs are entirely up to you. Likewise, mint or chilli pastes are traditionally used to increase or decrease the spice level in kebabs, making your meal something for everyone. Yogurt sauce cools it even further, and hot sauce can be added for the bravest! enjoy.
