According to the Associated Press, the families of the four victims killed in the mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio in 2019 filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer of the large-capacity magazine used by the gunman on Sunday.
In the lawsuit, the family claimed that the magazine can help kill people who may have more people because of its large ammunition capacity. In addition, according to the Associated Press report, they stated that the manufacturer Kyung Chang Industry USA Inc. deliberately marketed and sold the 100-round magazine used by gunman Connor Bates to kill nine people in the entertainment district of Dayton, Oregon.
The lawsuit alleges that Bates was able to fire 41 rounds in 32 seconds because of the large magazine capacity before the police shot him to death. The lawsuit also alleges that the manufacturer of the magazine made the devices, although they are “not effective or negligible for the legal use of firearms, but pose a huge risk to public safety because they are very effective in illegal mass shootings. And attractive.”

The lawsuit stated that the magazine’s capacity “enables Shooter to turn a popular business district into a war zone in a matter of seconds.”
The relatives of the victim are seeking unspecified economic losses of more than $15,000 and are asking the court to order the company to prevent the company from providing large-capacity magazines “without reasonable protective measures to prevent it from being abused.”
The complaint was filed by the families of the shooting victims Derek Fudge, Louis Oglesby, Logan Turner and Beatrice Nicole Warren-Curtis.
On Tuesday, the company left a message seeking comment on the lawsuit.
Bates was shot dead by police half a minute after shooting in the crowded entertainment district of Dayton on August 4, 2019. Holding an AR-15 gun and an extended ammunition magazine, Bates killed 9 people, including his sister, and wounded dozens of others.
After the shooting, the high school classmate said that Bates was suspended several years ago for compiling a “hit list” of the classmates he wanted to hurt. Two of the classmates said that Bates was also suspended after arriving at school with a list of female students he wanted to sexually assault.
Police investigators stated that Bates “has a history of obsession with the violent concept of mass shootings and expressed a desire to carry out mass shootings.” This FBI Said it found evidence that Bates “investigated violent ideology.”
But the authorities have not determined the motive, or can clearly say whether Bates intended to kill his sister Megan, or whether her death was unintentional.
Ohio Supreme Court Rejected requests from media including the Associated Press for copies of Bates’ school records. The court said last year that state law does not allow the disclosure of such records without the student’s consent, and if the student is deceased, there is no exception.
Last month, the manufacturer of the rifle used in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings provided nearly $33 million to the families of some victims to resolve their lawsuits about how the company sold guns to the public.
