A Florida man accidentally shot himself while showing off his gun to customers in a Pensacola bar.
The incident happened around 11pm on Thursday night, when Carlos Feituuaki Tuifua, 28, allegedly pulled out a pistol and showed it off to a woman and a man he was talking to at O’Riley’s Uptown Tavern in Pensacola.
According to the surveillance video at the bar, Tuifua’s hand made a quick movement, as if putting the gun in the fake holster under his left shoulder. The gun fired at this moment and the bullet wounded his upper body. Report Pensacola News Magazine.
Pensacola Police Department spokesman Greg Gordon said that after the gunshot, a bar customer signaled to a police officer during a routine patrol on Creighton Road. When the police started investigating the interior, a battle broke out among customers outside the main building of the bar. The police intervened at the scene to ease the situation. The police said the battle had nothing to do with the shooting.
“I don’t know if he is pretending to be a badass or something,” bar manager Warren Sonan told the Wall Street Journal. “But as far as I know, this is completely accidental.”
After a while, the man left the bar, went to the hospital to examine himself, and led the police to confirm his identity.
Tuifua is said to be recovering from his wounds and was arrested at home on Friday. Report WEAR-TV. He was accused of improperly displaying weapons and carrying hidden weapons without permission.
in a Similar incident Earlier this month, a 15-year-old boy showed off a gun to his 13-year-old friend when he was out at night. He accidentally shot and killed him in Utah. The two teenagers allegedly sneaked out of their residences and met in a church parking lot, where guns were accidentally released. The police believed that the 15-year-old boy had no intention of killing his friend and called 911 immediately after the incident.
According to the Non-Profit Organization (NPO) Education to Stop Gun Violence, approximately 1.2% Of the total number of gun deaths in 2019 were due to unintentional gun injuries. The NPO recommends avoiding alcohol when using guns.
