How Maersk handles the tensions arising from these changes could make or break its transition. “It’s not the wrong strategy,” said Lars Jensen, chief executive of shipping consultancy Vespucci Maritime and author of a book about the Danish group. “It’s more in communication. . . How do you see yourself? What is your core business? Is it moving boxes or moving information?”
Four years ago, a study by technology consultant Capgemini and digital analyst Brian Solis highlighted the stark difference in how corporate executives and local executives perceive digital transformation. Some 85% of executives believe their organization fosters collaboration on digital transformation internally, but only 41% of employees agree. While 71% of leaders say discussions about new business plans using new technology are open to all employees, only 41% believe this is true.
