On Saturday, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani found himself in the media’s focus after confusing comments about a federal investigation into his trade in Ukraine. By Sunday, Giuliani’s name became a hot topic on Twitter, and many users criticized his comments about imprisonment.
“If they want to put me in jail, I am very willing to go to jail. If they do, they will suffer the consequences in heaven. I don’t have one,” Giuliani said in an interview NBC New York.
Giuliani recently suspended his legal license in New York and Washington, DC, and served as the personal lawyer of former President Donald Trump. He insisted in the interview that he did not commit a crime.
“I didn’t commit a crime. If you think I committed a crime, you may be really stupid because you don’t know who I am,” Giuliani said. He also hinted that the investigation was politically motivated.
Federal prosecutors have not disclosed details of Giuliani’s investigation into Ukraine, but his lawyer Robert Costello said in April that the search warrant involved allegations that Giuliani had failed to register as a foreign agent.
