Google is simplifying Search Console reporting so you can focus more on issues that affect how your site appears in search results.
Upcoming changes will affect”warn‘ URL and label for the item. There is confusion as to whether this status means the page or item cannot appear in Google.
To alleviate this confusion, top-level projects will be marked as Effective or Invalid.
“Active” refers to pages or items with no critical issues, while “inactive” refers to pages or items with critical issues.
In a blog post, Google summarizes how this will benefit Search Console users:
“We think this new grouping will make it easier to quickly see which issues are affecting your site’s display on Google, helping you prioritize fixes.”
When viewing the report rendered by Google’s URL Inspection tool, you will also see the “Active” and “Inactive” labels.
Individual issues are still classified as mistake, warnor OKwhich is conveyed by using colors and icons instead of text labels.
The following reports are affected by this update:
- core network vitality: Bad/Needs Improvement/Good categories are kept, while pages are grouped into tables of good and bad.
- mobile availability: Categories are marked as “unavailable” and “available”.
- AMP report: Warnings are replaced with “valid” and “invalid” labels.
- Rich results reporting: The new label will be applied to events, fact checks, logos, and other types of reports.
- URL check: The top-level verdict for the URL will be:
- URL on Google
- The URL is on Google, but there is a problem
- URL is not on Google
You may not see any changes today as the update will roll out gradually over the next few months.
This is just a reporting change in Search Console. There’s no change to how your site is crawled, indexed, or served in search results.
