Ingredients for grilled shrimp skewers
This section explains how to choose the best ingredients for grilled shrimp skewers, the role of each ingredient in the recipe, and alternative options. For measurement, please refer to the recipe card below.for [component #1]:
How to choose shrimp:
- size – This recipe uses prawns and will be labeled 31/40. If you want, you can use larger shrimp, and the cooking time may be a minute or two longer. However, I don’t recommend much smaller, because the larger the shrimp on the grill, the more juicy.
- appearance – Raw shrimp should look gray and translucent-avoid discolored or ammonia-flavored shrimp.
- Fresh and frozen -Unless you can buy live shrimp, frozen and thawed shrimp will be the next freshest option.
- Shelled vs easy to peel vs peeled – The shell adds the most flavor and moisture to the shrimp, while the easy-peel shrimp has been easily separated and eviscerated. Peeled shrimp is the easiest to handle, but it may not look so beautiful due to the peeling process.
- Viscera – It is safe to use veined shrimp, but for the best appearance, they should be veined.
- Make sure it is raw – If you cook the pre-cooked shrimp again, they will become rubbery.
Marinade for grilled shrimp:
- olive oil – Use light olive oil for a neutral flavor, or try avocado oil.
- Lemon juice – The fresh lemon juice in this grilled shrimp skewers marinade tastes great, but if necessary, use a bottle.
- garlic -You can’t make garlic shrimp skewers without it! Chopped fresh tastes best, but you can use canned ones to save time.
- Italian seasoning – Use a pre-made version, or make Homemade Italian seasoning.
- Smoked paprika – Regular paprika will work if you have it, but smoked paprika adds the best flavor to the grill.
- sea salt & Black pepper

How to grill shrimp (step by step)
This section shows how to cook shrimp on the grill, with step-by-step photos and detailed information about the technique. For complete instructions, see the recipe card below.
- soak. If using bamboo skewers, soak them in water for 30-60 minutes before grilling. (This prevents them from burning on the grill.) Thin metal skewers can also be used without soaking.

- Make the marinade. Stir all the ingredients except the shrimp in a bowl.
- Marinated shrimp. Turn the shrimps over and let them marinate for 20-30 minutes.
tip: Don’t marinate for too long. If marinated for more than 30-60 minutes, the acid in the marinade will start to “cook” the shrimp (similar to ceviche).

- Warm up. While the shrimp is marinating, preheat the grill for 15 minutes on medium high heat.
- string. Remove the shrimp from the marinade and skewer on the kebab.
- Plancha. Cook the shrimp for 2-3 minutes on each side, until the shrimp is opaque.

Variation of grilled shrimp
Change the technique, service style and seasoning of grilled shrimp skewers to get delicious!
- Foil Grilled Shrimp – Place all the marinated shrimp on a large piece of foil and fold it into a slightly closed packet. Bake for 8-10 minutes.
- Grilled shrimp on the stove – If you can’t make barbecued garlic shrimp skewers on an outdoor grill, just use Bakeware On the stove top-the cooking time will not change.
- Grilled shrimp skewers with vegetables – Use vegetables that cook quickly (or slightly crunchy), such as zucchini, mushrooms, onions, or sweet peppers. Alternately place the prawns and chopped vegetables on the skewers and grill them for the same time.
- Change grilled shrimp seasoning – Try to use marinated shrimp Lemon pepper to taste, Indian Seasoning, Or your favorite herbs and spices.
