As the country returned to daytime standard time, many Americans slept an extra hour this morning.
Daylight saving time officially ended at 2 am on Sunday, bringing most parts of the country back to standard time. For most people, this transition happens automatically on their smartphones, which means that when they wake up this morning, they have an accurate time. But this change also means the time difference across the country.
Except for Hawaii and Arizona (excluding the Navajo), all other states observe daylight saving time. Therefore, for people in 48 states, the clock goes back one hour on Sunday. This means that the time difference between New York and Phoenix has changed from a three-hour difference on Saturday to a two-hour difference on Sunday.
On Saturday, the time difference between New York and Honolulu is six hours. This reduced to a five-hour difference on Sunday.
Since Chicago, Atlanta, and Los Angeles are all states with daylight saving time, the time difference between New York and these cities has not changed. On Sunday, there was still no time difference between New York and Atlanta, with a time difference of one hour from Chicago and three hours from Los Angeles.

States can choose not to move their clocks forward in the spring to maintain daylight standard time throughout the year. The states did not choose to continue to use daylight saving time, although some lawmakers hope to change this.
Republican Senator Marco Rubio Florida has repeatedly introduced bills to make daylight saving time permanent, citing the benefits of having an extra hour of daylight. Rubio’s recent attempts have won the support of both parties, including Democratic Senator Ron Wyden, Ed Markey And Sheldon Whitehouse.
Senator Rick Scott, Republican of Florida, said in a statement on Thursday: “Changing the clock twice a year is outdated and unnecessary.”
“We need to give Florida families more sunshine, not less!” He continued. “I’m proud to lead this bipartisan legislation with Senator Rubio, which made much-needed changes and benefited many people in Florida and across the country. Now is the time Congress Taking action, we can start by making America Senate Pass this good bill today. “
In 2018, Scott signed a legislation allowing Florida to maintain daylight saving time throughout the year. Other states have passed similar measures, but if Congress fails to take action to change the Uniform Time Act, this is just a gesture of support.
Therefore, if there is no action by Congress, most parts of the United States will maintain daylight saving time standard time until March, when the clock will move forward by one hour to restore daylight saving time.
