Health experts urge the Biden administration to promote COVID vaccine passports and authorizations

After the White House ruled out implementing such measures at the federal level, health experts are pressing the Biden administration to promote the use of COVID-19 vaccine orders and passports.

In April, the White House firmly refused to mandate a federal COVID-19 vaccine passport, and believed that the rights and privacy of citizens should be protected. The White House press secretary said: “The government is not now, and we will not support a system that requires Americans to carry documents.” Jean Psaki“There will be no federal vaccination database, nor will it require everyone to obtain a single vaccination certificate.”

Psaki did not prevent the private sector from using vaccine passports and implementing individual policies, but health experts said the government should promote such measures to protect citizens and quickly restore life before a pandemic.

“The Biden administration should not be so restrictive about vaccine verification,” George Washington University public health professor Leana Wen said, according to Hill.

After the White House stated that the federal government would not implement such efforts, health experts urged the Biden administration to promote the use of COVID-19 vaccines and authorizations.

“There are a lot of people in the middle. They are not in a hurry to get a vaccine, but they are not anti-vaccineists. They need extra push. And this push is still not because we have not been there to need to provide a vaccination certificate to get back to normal,” Wen added.

Assistant Professor Amesh Adalja, Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Senior scholars from the School of Public Health and Johns Hopkins University Health Safety Center criticized the Biden administration for not taking more measures to encourage vaccine passports, such as implementing standardized vaccine trackers for companies and individuals that would benefit from it.

“The idea of trying to obtain a certain vaccine certificate or a certain way to prove your vaccination status, I think this is something that the government should have anticipated and considered early,” Adalia said. Hill The report said, “and adopted some methods to make it easy to verify, instead of the fragile cards they gave you.”

A vaccine passport is a certificate that holders can use to prove their vaccination or health status to companies and establishments. Like masks and vaccines, such passports have caused controversy and politicized in the United States.

In April, the Governor of Florida Ron DeSantisRepublicans issued an executive order prohibiting companies from refusing to provide services or participate in activities for unvaccinated people. “The so-called COVID-19 vaccine passport will reduce personal freedom and compromise patient privacy,” DeSantis’ order read.

A week later, the Republican Governor of Texas Greg Abbott An executive order was issued prohibiting the mandatory use of vaccine passports by local agencies in the state.

Supporters believe that such files are necessary to limit personal exposure to the virus, while critics call it discriminatory.

New York State recently launched Excelsior Pass, a voluntary vaccine passport application that has been adopted by many companies and event organizers.
