HONG KONG (AP) — Veteran Hong Kong actor John Tsang died in a COVID-19 quarantine hotel in the southern Chinese city, local media reported.
Tsang is known for his roles in the 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day, John Woo’s The Hitman in 1989, Rush Hour 2 starring Jackie Chan and Chris Stark in 2001, and The Substitute Killer in 1998. Internationally renowned for its action characters” with Chow Yun-Fat and Mira Sorvino.
Tsang had been in quarantine for seven days after returning from Singapore on April 25 and was found collapsed on the floor of his hotel room by staff two days later, the South China Morning Post and other media reported.
The South China Morning Post said Tsang was 87, but other sources put his age at 86.
No cause of death was given, and the paper said he had tested negative for the virus and had no underlying medical conditions.
According to his IMDb page, Tsang has a total of about 237 acting credits, mainly from Hong Kong film and television works, especially detective and martial arts films.
Born in Shanghai, Mr. Zeng began his acting career in 1955 after earning a degree in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. In 1969 alone, he appeared in more than 20 films and worked until his death.
Tsang has been married three times and has a son with his first wife, Randy, and a daughter with his second wife, Barbara Tang.
Hong Kong is dealing with a resurgence of a highly-spreading variant of the omicron and is requiring all incoming travelers to undergo up to 14 days of quarantine.
