There was the Kentucky Derby, and then the crazy Kentucky Speedway Sprint, which was done this weekend by a 2-year-old pony named Bold and Bossy. In a game in Kentucky on Saturday, she threw the jockey out, then drove along the highway and interstate for 30 minutes, finally escaped the racetrack, and was trapped in a barn overnight.
Then, the barn caught fire, causing Bold and Bossy’s necks and other parts to be burned.
She is recovering now.
“By the grace of God, she was not shot,” said Michael Ann Ewing, the owner of the horse. “Thank God, she was not injured, nor did she cause serious injuries or deaths to others.”

After trotting along US Interstate 41 and Interstate 69, Bold and Bossy were tracked and given 30 liters of fluid to help her rehydrate. The location is south of one of the many Ohio River bends that form the border between Kentucky and Indiana.
According to one of the trainers, Kelsey Wallace, the horse took part in her first race at Ellis Park in Henderson, Kentucky, which is only three hours away from her training ground. During the race, she dumped jockey Miguel Mena, rushed over the dam, and started trotting with the vehicle on I-69.
After a daring and domineering short trip, trainers, police, the local sheriff’s department, and other horse enthusiasts finally stopped Bold and Bossy.
“The racing community is great,” Ewing said. “The staff, coaches and assistants-people I don’t even know-jumped into their trucks or golf carts, and as soon as she ran, people searched for her on a large scale.”
Bold and Bossy wore blindfolds, so she could only look straight ahead, and finally got tired and asked the chasers to surround her. A nearby training center allowed the horse to spend the night in the barn so that she could rest and not be traumatized that day.
But this is when the fire started.
“Kelsey did not plan to spend the night, but she said she thought it would be best to let Bossi settle there overnight, then give her more medicine and take her back,” Ewing said. “She sat with her until late in the evening. They checked her again and again, and then she finally went to her hotel room. Then she called me at 5 in the morning and said that the receiving barn was burned down.”
A night fire in Ellis Park caused the cancellation of today’s game and training. Early on Sunday morning, the receiving barn of the track was destroyed by fire. According to Ellis Park, there are signs that all horses believed to be seven have been rescued.

Ewing said: “They are assessing her lungs and injecting more fluid into her, and they will assess the burn. It’s really hard to say how severe they will become. You can see the dimples under the cream,” Ewing said. And added that Bossy will stay in an air-conditioned compartment for a few days. …They will do their best for her in a few days, and then we will re-evaluate and see what the game plan is. “
