The House of Representatives has approved immigrant visas in excess of 8,000 for Afghan citizens who assisted the US military during the 20 Years’ War in Afghanistan. The two parties voted to pass the House of Representatives easily, with 407 votes to 16 votes.
This move comes at a time when President Joe Biden has withdrawn most of his troops from the country. The decision to issue more visas comes at a time when the Taliban have made considerable progress in Afghanistan recently. They are slowly advancing towards the US-backed Afghan army.
It is expected to fully withdraw before August 31.
Since December 2014, the United States Granted 26,500 visas. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken admitted in June that there were approximately 18,000 possible applicants.

“If there is no response to the service and sacrifices of the Afghans who serve side by side with us, some members of this institution, including me, may not be here today,” Representative Jason Crow, D-Colo., He introduced the “Allied Powers Act” in June.
