How to Grow 21 Amazing Nut and Fruit Trees from Seed
I’m a big fan of growing trees from seed – especially fruit and nut trees. Today we’ll learn how long it takes fruit trees to set seed, and some tips you can use to germinate fruit tree seeds.
When you think about planting a tree, you probably imagine buying a potted tree from a nursery, digging a nice hole in your yard, and putting it in.

We rarely think about growing trees from seeds anymore – but I bet you’ll want to give it a go after seeing this video presentation originally aired during the Homegrown Food Summit:
I’m not worried about how long it will take. Many trees don’t take that long to grow, and the ones that take longer should still grow well over your lifetime.
I’m also not afraid of getting “bad” fruit. Most fruit tree seeds produce delicious fruit – if they don’t, you can always graft some scions of your favorite varieties. Nothing to lose!
Let’s take a look at how long it takes for fruit trees to grow from seed, covering the 21 species featured in the video. As we go through the list, I’ll also share additional videos on starting various trees.
How long does it take for these trees to bear fruit from seed?
#1.apple
Bear fruit from seed in 6-10 years.pop torrent Bag Moisten the soil in the refrigerator, watch the roots form, and plant the germinating seeds.
#2.avocado
5-13 years, but there are exceptions for earlier production times. Planting directly in soil works better than in water.
#3.banana
Usually within a year or two. Only “ornamental” and novelty types can be grown from seed. Nick the seeds, soak, then plant in a warm place.
#4.cashew

Seeds can bear fruit in 3 years. Plant the whole original seed.
#5.Tangerine
Plant fresh seeds — don’t let them dry out for too long, as the embryos inside will die.
Time for Citrus to Fruit From Seed:
- lime: 3–6 years old
- Calamondine: 3-6 years old
- Lemon: 3-6 years old
- Orange: 6-15 years old
- Grapefruit: 6-15 years old
#6.coconut
4-10 years. Plant whole, unhulled nuts into moist soil and wait.
#7.coffee
3-5 years. Grow fresh beans.
#8.date palm
About 8 years. Plant the pit in slightly moist soil in a warm spot and wait.pit from date It often grows in supermarkets.
#9.jackfruit
Jackfruit from seeds takes 4-6 years to bear fruit, but Pete Kanaris reports that one of his jackfruit trees was in flower at 18 months old. Plant fresh seeds as soon as possible after harvesting from fruit. It is better to plant directly in the ground than in pots.
#10.loquat
6 years. Plant fresh seeds.
#11.mango
Most improved mangoes take 5-6 years. Remove the embryos from the pit and do not let it dry out. Plant in the soil and wait! They can also grow from compost piles.
Polyembryonic mango varieties can bear fruit in as little as 2 years from seed sowing.
#12.Moringa
1 year.plant seed In the ground, or in pots. Likes warmth – don’t overwater the seedlings or they will rot.

#13.pawpaw
Papayas take about 1 year to produce fruit from seed. I plant fresh seeds directly from the fruit and thin as needed.
#14. claw claw (clover bee)
4-8 years old. Seeds must be removed from fresh fruit, do not allow them to dry out. Stratify them outside in potting soil over winter, or store them in moist potting soil in the refrigerator for a few months before planting in spring. Germination takes several months.
#15.peach
Can be produced in as little as 18 months. Layer in moist potting soil in the refrigerator, then plant when roots start to form.
#16.pecans and walnuts
about ten years. Store them in the refrigerator for 3-4 months, or plant them directly in the ground in colder regions.put on nut First in the water. The ones that float are bad. Chuck them.
#17.Plum
Fruit production may take 3-5 years. Do the same with peaches.
#18.Pomegranate
Wipe off the pulp, dry the seeds with a paper towel, and plant. They say it takes 4-5 years to produce from seed, but I’ve had dwarf pomegranates from seed in just a few years.
#19.Eleuthero
3-5 years. The seeds lose their vigor within a few months, so wash them off the fruit and plant directly.
#20.tropical almonds
Plant some in the ground and wait. Tropical almonds bear fruit in just 18 months from seed.

#twenty one.west indian locust
Our last tree is the weirdest. It is a source of amber and nearly indestructible wood, and it is a huge tree in the rainforest. . . with edible pods bearing the unflattering name “stinky toes”. The thing is, they taste great – I’m going to have some in my yard! You can also grow them if you live in a tropical climate. First, open the pods, eat the deliciously fluffy sweet flour inside, and spit out the hard seeds.
The seeds are cut and soaked, then planted. They will appear in a few weeks.
