These ingredients

This section explains how to choose the best ingredients for garlic compound butter, the role of each ingredient in the recipe, and alternative options. For measurement, please refer to the recipe card below.

  • Unsalted butter – I prefer to use unsalted butter so that I can control the amount of salt and use higher quality sea salt, but you can also use salted butter and omit the added salt.
  • garlic – I recommend using fresh garlic cloves so you can press them out with a garlic press. But if you have canned minced garlic on hand, you can also use it. One clove is about 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic.
  • Fresh herbs – I used dill and parsley, but depending on the time of year, you can replace them with rosemary and thyme. Garlic herb butter is usually not as good as using dried herbs, but if you insist on using them, it is converted to 1 teaspoon of dried herbs instead of each tablespoon of fresh herbs.
  • sea salt
