How to make your bone broth more delicious-Dr. Kelian

For many years, bone broth has been my preferred super food. Whether it is cooked very simply with good bones and water, or adding garlic, onions and vegetables, bone broth is a panacea that I cannot resist. But for some people, drinking bone broth may take a while to get used to, so I suggest trying to add herbs and spices until you create the flavor combination that suits you best.

Although a lot Bone broth It’s definitely my favorite salty drink, but that doesn’t mean I don’t mix it from time to time. There are countless ways to season or enhance the taste of bone broth, and here are my favorites.

Add herbs and spices to the bone broth

Although it is easiest to sprinkle dried herbs and spices, you can also chop up some fresh herbs and spices and simmer them in the bone broth. Just like any good recipe, add salt and pepper to your liking.

When I want to keep it simple, I add one or two of the following:

  • Salt
  • White pepper or black pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder or dried chopped onion
  • Lemon juice
  • lemon peel
  • Hot sauce
  • Vinegar (apple cider vinegar is my favorite)
  • Truffle oil
  • Smoked salt
  • Coconut Amino
  • Fish sauce

When I crave something reminiscent of my Italian roots, I add the following combinations:

  • coriander
  • Oregano
  • Basil
  • Thyme
  • Rosemary
  • Marjoram
  • Unsweetened tomato sauce (½ to 1 teaspoon)
  • Italian seasoning

When I want something mild but rich in flavor, I choose one of the following combinations:

  • Salt, pepper, chives and lemon juice
  • Ginger, garlic powder and lemon juice
  • Truffle salt and ginger
  • Garlic and onion powder, salt and smoked paprika
  • Garlic powder, ginger, coriander, coconut amino and lime juice

When I really want to season it, please choose one of the following methods:

  • Hot sauce (or chili) and lemon juice
  • Hot sauce, or Sriracha, lime juice, salt, garlic powder and coriander (or coriander)
  • Chili powder, cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder and chili powder
  • Turmeric, garlic powder and black pepper

Don’t forget to visit the spice aisle

This is a no-brainer. For creative ways to enhance the flavor of bone broth, please visit the Spice Channel. There are many interesting flavor combinations on the shelves of your local grocery store. Every time I stock up spices, I am surprised at the new seasoning combination I find. If you have a favorite ethnic food, I promise you will have seasonings. Try some, but be sure to pay attention to the added ingredients and skip the ingredients that contain MSG and added sugar.

Here are some of the combinations of spices and sauces that I often use:

  • Italian seasoning (of course)
  • Provence vanilla
  • Taco Seasoning
  • Adobo, Mexico
  • Curry powder or sauce
  • Garam Masala
  • Spiced
  • Blackening seasoning
  • Umami seasoning
  • Zatar
  • Harissa Hot Sauce

Use your bone broth to make soup

So far, soup is my favorite way to get more vegetables and protein in my diet. Check out my post on loading soup soup for great ideas about adding more vegetables to bone broth. Remember, bone broth can be used to make a quick meal by adding your favorite meat to bone broth and vegetables. Check out some of my favorite soup recipes here.

Make cream

A little healthy fat, one tablespoon or two tablespoons for every eight ounces of bone broth, can turn any soup into a creamy soup. My favorite way to make cream soup is canned coconut milk, but mashed avocado also works well.

Bottom line…make it yours
