What is Stitch on TikTok?
The stitching feature allows TikTok users to cut and integrate scenes from other users’ videos into their own videos. It makes it easy for you to quote someone else’s content and comment on it or completely reinterpret the idea.
@tiktokNow for the introduction: Stitching! The ultimate collaboration with your favorite creator 🎬♬ Original Sound – TikTok
Users who stitch other people’s content expand the conversation to a wider audience. Since Stitch automatically records the original creator and includes a byline link in the video, stitched videos can actually get a lot of attention in the way the original creators did.
How to stitch on TikTok
Using the Stitch feature is very simple. Here’s how:
- Go to the TikTok video you want to stitch and press the “Send to” button.
- Press the “Stitch” button.
- Select the clips to include in the video. You can choose up to five seconds from the original video.
- Record your responses or additions to stitched content.
- Post and watch the conversation expand.
Let’s go through the same steps with screenshots:
step 1: Open TikTok and find the video you want to stitch, then press the “Send to” button.
Step 2: In the menu, click Stitch.

Step 3: Select clips from this video to include in the video. You can choose up to five seconds from the original video.

the fourth step: Record your responses or additions to stitched content. While recording, the red at the top marks the original video content, and the blue is what you are recording. Editing tools, timers, effects, filters, voiceovers, text, and more are still available for stitching videos.

Step #5: Post and watch the conversation expand.
How to close and open Stitch
Allowing other users to stitch your videos opens the door for millions of people to reply directly to your videos. This can increase your video reach and engagement, which may land your video on the coveted “For You” Page (FYP), or even improve your chances of going viral.
Still, the internet can be intimidating. When you open the door to collaboration, you welcome potential criticism. Since you can’t choose what kind of responses you receive, those who want to protect their privacy or avoid negative interactions may want to disable the feature.
Fortunately, you can easily adjust these permissions through the Privacy and Security page under Settings and Privacy. Here you can choose to enable or disable Stitch for all videos in your account.
Here’s how to turn Stitch off or on:
- Go to your profile and tap the three dots in the upper right corner.
- Click on ‘Privacy’ under the ‘Account’ tab.
- Click on “Who can stitch with your video.
- Here, you can choose “Everyone,” “Friends,” or “Nobody.”
step 1: Go to your profile and click on the three lines in the upper right corner.

Step 2: Click on ‘Privacy’ under the ‘Account’ tab.

Step 3: Click “Who can join your video” and choose Everyone, Friends, or No One.
How to disable Stich for a single video
You can also enable or disable Stitch for each individual video, but you must do so when you post a new video. Just turn the Allow Stitching button on or off before clicking Publish.

Can you stitch on TikTok with saved videos?
You can only use the Stitch feature for existing TikToks and newly recorded videos. You can select any video on TikTok to stitch, even from your Saved folder (as long as the creator enabled stitching for their video), but your responses must be recorded in the app.
In other words, you can’t upload pre-existing content that has been saved to your camera roll for stitching. If you want to reply to a video using what’s in your camera roll, you’ll have to download the video you want to stitch and edit it with your reply as a regular TikTok video. This does not automatically link the original video, nor is it recognized by the algorithm as a Stitch.
TikTok Stitch example for inspiration
Let the product go viral like @cindilooblink182
@Cindilooblink182 stitched together @Snackqueen666’s video raving about the Urban Decay lipstick mentioned in the original video. Stitch is one of the ways products go viral on TikTok, and this video is a great example. Users create chain reactions trying products and stitching together their reactions.

Show off your talent like @Kentai.haven
@Ollierose_ posted a video asking what the label of someone who “calculates people’s height” is. Followers of @Kentai.haven clamored for a response to her video, which was mentioned more than 1,000 times overnight. In response, he showed his unique talent for guessing people’s heights based on objects in videos and lots of math.

Try cat fun (and potentially dangerous) trends like @carson_day5
@Carson_day5 bravely stitched a video of @dmitryhitr’s cat meowing to Justin Bieber’s “Peach” with a little help. @Carson_day5’s cat isn’t amused, but I’m having fun.

What is the difference between Stitch and Duets?
Stitch is sometimes confused with Duet. A duet is when your recorded video follows someone else’s video. This feature places your video and the original video side by side, with the new video on the left and the original video on the right. Both videos are played at the same time.

Stitch, on the other hand, puts borrowed clips in the video, not next to it. Borrowed clips do not play at the same time as your recording. Instead, it’s part of your content.
