This Huawei MateView GT is a 34-inch widescreen display with a refresh rate of 165 Hz, a built-in sound bar, and an adjustable LED light bar on the front to highlight your settings.
Huawei is known for its mobile phones and tablets, but the company is now expanding its displays to include this gaming monitor. I have been working with MacBook Air for a few weeks, Xbox Series S and Acer Nitro 5 gaming monitor laptops.
Huawei MateView GT has good specifications, with a price of 548 Euros (approximately US$645) in Germany and China. For gamers, this is a tempting choice, but there are some problems.

On the bright side, the 34-inch display has an aspect ratio of 21:9, making many games more immersive. 3440 x 1440 is equal to 109 pixels per inch (PPI), which is very suitable for gaming without the need for a super powerful GPU. On many displays, the 1500R curve is more immersive than the 1800R curve.
The VA panel supports 10-bit color. It provides a response time of 4 milliseconds, which is fast enough for home use, but it will not become the choice of e-sports players. One major problem is that there is no AMD FreeSync or N-Vidia G-Sync support, which you can find on many gaming monitors.
The Huawei MateView GT has a soundbar at the bottom of the stand with two 5W speakers, which is much better than what I usually find on the monitor. This is an excellent solution for watching movies, playing casual games or listening to music. The bass is very deep, helping me keep a very simple desktop setup. There is also a built-in microphone in the display. I still wear headphones for heavier games or longer video calls.

There is a touch-sensitive RGB light strip on the soundbar, and you can tap it to change the volume. The monitor menu options allow you to change the RGB effect between static, breathing, colorful, single wave, ripple wave, colorful flow, colorful ripple and flowing wave. Each effect has five levels.
If you like RGB in the settings, then this is a nice feature. A young gamer who helped test this monitor liked this feature. The effect is similar to that found on many gaming keyboards and mouse pads. If you don’t like the RGB effect, it is easy to turn it off.
The bracket is a beautiful black metal that looks great and very strong. There is a frosted ring on the back, which looks good. I initially thought this was another RGB source, but it is not the case. You can adjust the height and tilt of the monitor, but not left or right.
In terms of connectivity, the monitor includes a DisplayPort, two HDMI 2.0 ports, a USB-C power port, a USB-C connection that can charge 10W, and a microphone and/or headset 3.5 mm combo jack. The included power cord is not a US plug, so if you plan to use the monitor in the US, you should plan to purchase a USB-C power supply or plug adapter.

Huawei MateView GT uses a VA panel with high brightness, excellent contrast, and impressive black levels. When playing games and watching movies, the colors will pop and look great.
The colors look accurate, and when testing the game Forza Horizon 4, war machine with my world, I found that the monitor did a good job of producing rich colors during gaming. There is a high dynamic range (HDR) option to increase the brightness, but this is not a major upgrade, because turning on HDR does not seem to change the contrast or dimming options. Xbox Series S does not support ultra-wide resolution.
The 165 Hz refresh rate is very suitable for mainstream games. Without FreeSync and G-Sync, there would be a bit of tearing on the screen, but this does not happen very often, I only noticed it when I observed it carefully. A young player who helped me test the monitor noticed some tearing while playing his favorite game, but this was not enough to significantly reduce the overall performance.
With a response time of 4 milliseconds and a refresh rate of 165 Hz, the MateView GT can handle most games, but we did see a lower 1 millisecond response time on many competing monitors. This means you will see more blur on Huawei MateView GT, but it still performs very well. There is an overspeed mode that can help reduce blur.
If you use the monitor for work, you can also enable the low blue light mode to help reduce blue light, thereby reducing eye strain.
Is Huawei MateView GT worth buying?
If you are looking for a solid gaming monitor, Huawei MateView GT is a good choice. The display quality is good, the refresh rate is great for many gamers, and the RGB lighting design is very beautiful. The included sound bar and built-in microphone enhance the overall value.
