Seattle (Associated Press)-The club announced on November 17 that the Seattle Mariners will elect Ichiro Suzuki into the team’s Hall of Fame in the 2022 season.

Suzuki will be honored against Cleveland in Seattle on August 27.

Mariners chairman John Stanton said in a statement: “Marino fans are fortunate to see Ichiro Suzuki wearing the Mariners uniform on the plate and on the court performing his magic for more than ten years.”

Suzuki spent part of the 14 seasons with the Mariners before retiring in March 2019 after opening the game with his native Japan in Seattle.

Suzuki has been selected to the All-Star 10 times, won the Golden Glove Award 10 times, won two batting championships, and won the 2001 Rookie of the Year and MVP in his first season with the Mariners.

Suzuki also played for the New York Yankees and Miami.

Suzuki is currently the coach of the Mariners team that works with major league and top three teams. He will be eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2025.
