This recipe is specifically for the Instant Pot, but you can technically make pressure cooker baked potatoes in any other pressure cooker as well. If the pressure cookers are similar in size, the times should be the same.

- Potato – I used medium sized Russet potatoes (about 2.5 lbs for 5 potatoes, or 8 ounces each), but any kind will do. Cooking times may vary if your servings are much larger or smaller than 8 oz.
- water – You’ll need a glass of cold water handy because the Instant Pot always needs liquid.
- salt and pepper – For a simple seasoning of potatoes after they have been cooked in the pressure cooker.

How to Make Baked Potatoes in the Instant Pot

- Prepare the potatoes. Pierce each potato with a fork.
- Get your Instant Pot ready. add one tripod and water to the bottom instant pot. Place the potatoes on the trivet.
- Pressure cook. Close the Instant Pot, set the knob to the seal position, and select Manual. Cook baked potatoes in a pressure cooker on high pressure. When the time is up, let the pressure release naturally, this will allow the potatoes to finish cooking and become fluffier.
- transfer. Remove the lid, and use tongs to carefully transfer the baked potatoes to a plate.


- season. Slice the baked potatoes down the center, fluff the inside with a fork, and season with salt and pepper.

Cook medium potatoes on high pressure in the Instant Pot for 14 minutes. Let the stress release naturally.

- add toppings – Although optional, toppings are an easy way to change the flavor of your Instant Pot potatoes after they’re baked.For the classic demo, use buttersour cream, chives or green onions, shredded cheddar cheese and grated Oven Bacon.
- change seasoning – Instead of salt and pepper, try seasoning like taco seasoning or ranch seasoningor upgrade your butter with a savory compound butter.
- with sweet potatoes – Substitute medium sweet potatoes for the same pressure cooking time as white potatoes.
- get meringue – After cooking, brush the potatoes with oil and place in the broiler over high heat until the skins are crisp (about 4-6 minutes).

Basic Instant Pot Baked Potatoes:

place a tripod at the bottom instant pot. add water.

Poke holes in potatoes with a fork. (This will prevent them from exploding while cooking.)

Place the potatoes on a trivet.

Place the lid on the Instant Pot, making sure the knob is set to seal.

Select Manual, then High Pressure and set the time 14 minutes。 When the timer goes off, use a natural pressure release (my 6-quart Instant Pot takes 6 minutes).

Carefully remove the Instant Pot lid.use clamp Remove potatoes from Instant Pot and transfer to a plate.

Slice the potatoes thinly down the middle and fluff the inside. Season with salt and pepper.

Add your favorite toppings, if desired: butter, sour cream, chives, cheddar cheese, and/or cooked bacon.
