Arch of eLichens The ultra-high selectivity CH4 gas sensor can avoid false alarms and can be used in LoRaWAN networks.
Semtech Corporation announced a collaboration with eLichens, the designer of avolta-CH4, a new networked gas leak detector based on the LoRaWAN® standard.
Based on eLichens patent Gas sensing technology, avolta can detect natural gas (methane) leaks with super-selectivity, without drift over time, and has been approved by the research gas laboratory.
“Dangerous gas leaks cause serious environmental and economic hazards to any home and city. In fact, it is estimated that a quarter of leaks from pipelines and natural gas infrastructure occur near gas meters,” said Marc Attia, chief marketing officer of eLichens.
“We chose to implement a LoRaWAN connection for our avolta gas sensor because of its low-power, long-distance capability-allowing instant alerts of any damaging gas leaks in order to respond and potentially save lives. The most important thing is , The combination of eLichens NDIR sensor technology and LoRaWAN can directly comply with UL1484 and EN50194-1 standards.”
Arch of eLichens Detection gas Due to its extremely low power consumption gas sensor and the integration of Semtech LoRa® equipment with the LoRaWAN standard, it has a battery life of more than 10 years running on LoRaWAN. eLichens sensors do not require recalibration and have a long service life, making them ideal for the following applications Gas leak detection In the residential and industrial markets.
By leveraging the rise of connected sensors and low-power wireless networks, gas utility companies can significantly reduce gas leaks in their gas distribution networks. eLichens’ new gas leak detector can selectively detect and monitor (thanks to eLichens’ NDIR sensing technology) low-level methane leaks, so that appropriate decisions can be made based on the nature of the leak.
“As more and more cities choose to use Internet of Things (IoT) solutions to improve and protect the lives of citizens, they should benefit from new gas safety solutions,” Said Marc Pégulu, vice president of marketing and strategy for IoT products in the Semtech Wireless and Sensing Products Group. “This use of LoRa and LoRaWAN demonstrates the power of IoT technology to create a smarter and ultimately safer planet for all.”
