IoT News | OQ Technology successfully demonstrated indoor tracking in a mobile car with its 5G IoT nanosatellite

The company has completed on-orbit commissioning and will start customer use case demonstrations.

5G satellite operator OQ Technology has successfully completed the in-orbit commissioning (IOC) of its Tiger-2 nanosatellite and is preparing to start customer demonstrations.

The company is already in talks with several potential customers who are interested in using the company. Satellite-based 5G IoT services And will begin to provide commercial services for “delay tolerant” low-power devices next year.

“Completing the IOC phase and our successful testing of terminals in remote areas is a critical step to start generating revenue from satellites and launch more satellites in early 2022 to advance the development of the constellation,” Said Omar Qaise, founder and CEO of OQ Technology.

“In addition to potential customers, we are also negotiating with cellular chip partners to expand satellite access capabilities to existing cellular IoT chips worldwide. Our next step is to begin service demonstrations with our potential customers and their use cases.”

After a successful launch and Early Orbital Phase (LEOP), OQ Technology began its IOC phase on August 15. In the next few weeks, OQ carried out various operations to verify the performance of the satellite payload, and from the first launch, it was flawless on both the uplink and the downlink. OQ has also tested and calibrated its work terminals in different fixed and mobile environments for desert and indoor use.

The OQ terminal left in the desert successfully transmitted data to its Tiger-2 satellite within a few weeks

During the test, OQ was able to send the GPS location of the terminal to the satellite from within a fast-moving car without looking directly into the sky. Even if buried in the desert, the terminal is still sending signals to satellites, making it ideal for many agricultural applications. The high level of signal-to-noise ratio exceeded OQ’s high expectations.

Kaiser said:

“The ability to track our terminal even indoors and when covered by soil increases the possible services we can provide our customers. It opens the door to many potential use cases that other satellite operators cannot provide. It Demonstrating the impact and possibilities of a new generation of 5G satellites.”

“Therefore, we are now about to sign a memorandum of understanding with a respected research institution to cooperate in the development of satellite-based services in the Middle East and Africa. This may be the first step in this direction.”

In the next few years, OQ Technology plans to launch a constellation of 72 satellites to provide 5G Internet of Things and machine-to-machine (M2M) communications. its ‘The signal tower inside the satellite‘The technology will ultimately provide real-time global connectivity with ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC).

The goal of OQ is to connect 70-80% of the world without Internet access, initially providing opportunities for delay-tolerant applications such as smart agriculture, metering, and environmental monitoring, such as measuring hazardous gases in oil and gas fields or tracking pipeline corrosion. Moving to more real-time applications, such as alerting, tracking, leak detection, robotics, smart cars, and drone control.
