Israel continues to launch attacks on Lebanon after the rocket attack, and UN forces call for calm

This United Nations The peacekeeping force responsible for controlling the conflict between Israel and Lebanon is experiencing a new and escalating situation in the tense border area between the two countries, and they plead for calm.

News of the riots first appeared on Wednesday, when there were reports that rockets fired from Lebanese territory crossed the disputed Blue Line border into Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that alarms were sounded in the villages of Qiryat Shemona, Kfar Giladi and Tel-Hai.

“Three rockets were launched from Lebanon into Israel. Two of them landed in Israel and one of them did not enter Israel,” the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement. “In response, the IDF artillery units opened fire on Lebanese territory.”

The Israel Defense Forces subsequently sent a report stating that it carried out two more attacks and launched three attacks on Lebanon within two hours.

At the same time, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon tracked developments that occurred on the anniversary of the bombing at the port of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, which exacerbated the economic crisis that deteriorated a year later.

“Just after noon today, UNIFIL received reports that at least two rockets were launched from Lebanon to Israel,” a spokesperson for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon said in a statement. Weekly newspaper“The IDF confirmed these reports and responded with artillery fire.”

In response, Major General Stefano del Cole, head of the UNIFIL mission and force commander, “established contact with all parties immediately.” He “urged them to cease fire and exercise maximum restraint to avoid further escalation, especially on this solemn anniversary.”

The statement said: “UNIFIL is still in full contact with all parties through our liaison and coordination channels, and we are cooperating with the Lebanese Armed Forces to ensure immediate follow-up on the ground and strengthen security along the Blue Line.” “It must be restored immediately. Stabilize so that UNIFIL can begin investigations.”

The attack occurred about two weeks after the previous round of hostilities. The Israel Defense Forces opened fire on Lebanon in response to a rocket launch a few hours after neighboring Syria accused Israel of conducting an air strike there.

This is a developing news story. More information will be added as it becomes available.

On August 4, after launching rockets on the Lebanese side of the border, Israeli self-propelled howitzers fired at Lebanon from the northern Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona. The military stated that rockets from Lebanon hit northern Israel due to increased tensions between the two countries, triggering retaliatory shelling. Last year, on the anniversary of the devastating explosion in the Lebanese capital, Israel and its old enemy Iran became enemies.
