Four Ivy League schools received bomb threats over the weekend and were eventually dismissed as “untrustworthy” by the police.
Columbia University, Cornell University, and Brown University received bomb threats on Sunday afternoon, and Yale University received bomb threats on Friday.
These threats led all schools to order the evacuation of multiple locations and buildings within the campus. The threats sent to the university on Sunday are said to be about an hour apart. A few hours later, each of them was dismissed as a false alarm.
“After investigation, the New York Police Department believes that today’s bomb threat is not credible and the campus building has been cleared for reoccupation. We thank those affected for their patience and cooperation during the evacuation.” Columbia University Wrote on Twitter on Sunday.
The threat to Columbia University came from a Twitter user named “Jia Nakamura” who claimed to be carrying AR-15 and Glock 10 pistols on campus.The user wrote that if any police approached, “all explosives” would be activated, according to Columbia Daily Audience. The Twitter account is now suspended.
Cornell Report The threat to their campus was made by anonymously calling the 911 bomb dispatcher, and the bombs were placed in multiple buildings. Brown passed “Brown Alert“SMS to students.
Yale Police Chief Ronel Higgins Said On Sunday, it is too early to say whether all threats are connected.
