Former surgeon Jerome Adams disagrees with the new loose mask guidelines developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Adams spoke on Twitter on Saturday CDC Fearing that the Delta variant will lead to an increase in COVID-19 cases, it was decided to lift the restrictions on masks for vaccinated individuals.
“Emerging data suggests that the CDC should recommend vaccination [rising] Cases and positivity-until we see the numbers drop again. The CDC is well-intentioned, but the information is misunderstood, immature, and wrong. Let’s fix it,” He tweeted.
Adams also reflected on how he and Dr. Anthony Fauci made mistakes in past mask recommendations.
“Last year, Tony Fauci and I suggested not to wear masks too early and in the wrong way. At the time I thought this was the best call, but now I regret it. I worry that CDC has also made it in the face of delta variants. Similar premature, distorted but still harmful appeals,” He tweeted.
Adams insisted that it is time to learn from previous mistakes and use them to move on. “People’s reaction is that both my (in the past) and CDC (now) information is wrong, which is why people and institutions are so reluctant to admit that they are wrong,” He wrote.
“Science and scientists (and people) are often wrong. You learn and you become better. Science is not a fixed end-it is a journey.”
Adams’ comments were made after the current surgeon Vivic Murty After criticizing the new relaxation of mask regulations, he defended the CDC.
“I think the CDC’s guidance on masks is actually to provide flexibility to individuals and localities, and realize that in the next phase of the pandemic, as we take more local and regional responses based on people’s vaccination rates and communities , Guidelines on how to deal with masks and other mitigation measures will also be tailored locally,” He says.
Murthy believes that the new flexibility will allow states to make decisions about vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals as they see fit.
