The Change.org petition called for the leniency of Julius Jones, and just a few hours before the death row was planned to be executed, the petition had more than 6.5 million signatures.

Jones was convicted of murder in 1999 when he was 19 years old. Jones said he was innocent, and his family has appealed to Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt for leniency.

Jones’ execution is expected to take place at 4 pm Central Time on Thursday.

Cece Jones-Davis of Julius Jones Coalition initiated the Change.org petition, asking Stitt and the Oklahoma State Pardon and Parole Commission to intervene to prevent enforcement.
